This is true! Please don't support accounts that post photos without credit for clout and/or monetization. @franzanth.bsky.social maintains a block list of these and other such follower farming accounts here: bsky.app/profile/did:...
Reminder that accounts with random handles and only cat pictures (with zero interaction) are just spam accounts.
They exist to build up followers then resell the account. Mostly to crypto bollocks. And the cat pics are stolen (obviously).
How am I any different? I post photos from my own personal collection and credited images with links to sources (always with ALT text). And I started the first Cats of Yore on twitter in 2021 and have never made money for myself from any of this (but I have raised >$50,000 for animal shelters).
I think anyone who has followed me for any amount of time or who knows me in real life can see that this account exists because of my sincere love of cats and history. The followers thing happened by accident, not by design. 🥰
Here's one you can add to your collection, my Mom visiting her former school for the deaf in Oklahoma with a handful of kittens, circa 1960 (from what she said they had been recently born to the groundskeeper's cat, who had several litters, and played with by the students)
Ah. I only passed through Chickasha once, about 20 years ago (I'm in the eastern half of the state and used to go to Sulphur regularly for the park, I was saddened to see the tornado hit the town)
But you have in your bio who you are, and you actually write things. I have been followed by a few spam accounts and all they do is post pic after pic, or repost stuff with no comment. You def look different from spam.
Another key is that you reply and comment, as well. You participate in the community and have conversations. It shows you are a member of said community, not a leach like the bot accounts are.
