Is no one going to talk about how JD Vance and Ron DeSantis have almost identical profiles -- military background, Ivy league educated pseudo populist culture warriors. And the one thing that gave JD a leg up was being strategic about when and how to shape shift? How hard is RD grieving right now?

It cannot be stressed enough that adjusting the size of the Supreme Court in the 19th c. was a serious solution to serious concerns about how the Court functioned. As @earlymodjustice.bsky.social points out, reform often addressed imbalances. And these imbalances were often about REPRESENTATION. 1/
Seven times between 1801 and 1869 Congress changed the size of the court, going from a low of five justices in 1801 to a high of ten in 1863. In most of those cases, as in 1801 and 1863, the size went up and down in order to fix an imbalance or overreach by the Supreme Court. My latest

Just finished the Queenie series and really enjoyed it. I finished reading Black Girls Must Die Exhausted last month, so initially I got some of the plot confused, but they go in fairly different directions. They complement each other well.
So thrilled to wrestle with "Queenie" -- the book and the series on Hulu for NPR. I wrote about why I think the adaptation translates and expands on the novel in necessary ways. My review: "Queenie’s second life on screen expands its original vision." www.npr.org/2024/06/11/n...
Queenie’s second life on screen expands its original visionwww.npr.org Like the 2019 novel by Candice Carty-Williams that it’s based on, the Hulu series Queenie – which premiered Friday – explores the quarter-life growing pains of lonely South Londoner, Queenie Jenkins.

I don’t think major editorial boards are wrong for suggesting Biden step aside. I think they’re wrong for not demanding* the same of the one anti-democratic candidate who is a convicted felon. That’s the egregious part. *notably exception is Philly Inky

It’s been so interesting watching political scientist friends try to figure out what is best for American democracy this week. The one point of consensus esp after the SCOTUS ruling, is that the stakes could not be higher and that American democracy is unlikely to survive a Trump presidency in tact:
