it feels like a somewhat unpopular view these days but integration is an unalloyed good and should be pursued as vigorously as possible
5 years ago, when I was on the D15 Community Education Council (Park Slope to Sunset Park to Red Hook), we helped pass a historic diversity plan to change admissions procedure at the district's middle schools. We were told that we would chase families out of the system. Our critics were wrong.
What Happened When Brooklyn Tried to Integrate Its Middle Schoolswww.nytimes.com A new report found that many schools enrolled more racially and socioeconomically diverse groups of students without sparking a major exodus of families from public schools.

I am convinced the Good columnists and the Bad opinion writers are separated by how each answers the following basic question: “was the United States a democracy prior to the 1960s”

lol omg. Libertarians love to cite this F. Douglass article, "The Folly, Tyranny, and Wickedness of Labor Unions," to say that he hated labor unions. E.g., Damon Root reviewing Nick Buccola's book in Reason. I saw elsewhere Walter Williams cite it. But Douglass didn't write it! THREAD w/ receipts.

As a kid, I refused to eat Kix after one spoonful, (after demanding my mom buy it) because it tasted bland compared to Coco Puffs. When I asked to try Grape Nuts, both my parents and grandparents told me I'd hate it, but liked it quite a bit, despite being made from cardboard and carpet remnants.
I’m still hung up on grape nuts at 3 those things are an abomination

Since people were asking about the context of the "Sir, this is a Wendy's" statement in front of the Supreme Court... here it is, and no, I don't understand it any better now as when I was listening to it.
Question for the experts: was this the first time "Sir, this is a wendy's" has been said during oral arguments at the Supreme Court?

A New Yorker Of Distinction in my neighborhood is a deeply tan, mustachioed man who puts a boombox on a card table next to the small dog run in the evenings and jams some tunes. The dogs seem to enjoy it. Today he had a handwritten sign reading "please do not approach the bench when I am DJ'ing."
