It sucks that the only news has been election coverage in fucken July so I’ll kick off a better topic: the manager of the Tour de France favorite who was last years big acquisition came out and suggested their superstar couldn’t be trusted to ride his bike without two teammate babysitters
it's officially election season.

The robot is not a bargaining unit member and must not be given bargaining unit work. Faculty unions should be looking over their contracts right now, figuring out exactly how to grieve or otherwise oppose the introduction of these systems.

One of the most distressing things about academia is the pervasive belief that changing the demographic make up of our fields always involves lowering the bar. Speak up about diversity? Get told we can’t lower the bar. Did I ask to lower the bar? No.
this entire crusade against diversity in hiring and admissions is based on the supposition that all white men are necessarily more qualified than any nonwhite person or woman who might be considered for the job. like, this lawsuit more or less states that outright.
Lawsuit: Northwestern’s law school is biased against White men in hiringwww.washingtonpost.com The lawsuit, filed by a prominent attorney, alleges the university’s law school gives hiring preference to women and people of color.

the first, second and third most important news stories this week are about the SCOTUS decision, and every columnist spending their time talking about biden old is telling you what they value. we don’t have to indulge them, though, stop your subs, stop clicking, stop talking about them.

As I’ve said before: GoT/ASOIAF is dangerous because it might as well have been designed in a lab to cater to 21st century ideas about what the medieval past was “really like,” even though it is no less of a fantasy than Lord of the Rings or Star Wars.
One of the worst things that Game of Thrones has enabled (involuntarily) in a particular kind of almost exclusively male nerd is a permission structure for going UMM WELL ACTUALLY at "unrealistic" depictions of medieval life (which aren't even unrealistic, you're just an undereducated twat)

one thing not taxing tips could do is make it easier to steal tips; the less you have to keep records the easier it is to steal
like, why is anyone treating this like a serious proposal? the trump department of labor wanted to make it easier for employers to steal tips for christssake! he has an actual record!
Trump is proposing to make tips tax-free. What would that mean for workers?apnews.com Former President Donald Trump’s proposal to exclude tips from federal taxes is getting strong reviews from some Republican lawmakers.

Richard Lynn was a pillar of 20th-century scientific racism. His magnum opus was a database of "national IQs", a menagerie of unrepresentative IQ studies with no explicit criteria for inclusion except that the results show a low IQ for Africans. This should be an open-and-shut case for retraction.
Journals that published Richard Lynn's racist 'research' articles should retract themwww.statnews.com Richard Lynn's work has been repeatedly condemned for using flawed methodology and deceptively collated data to support racism. It's past time to retract the studies.
