I just logged in for my daily dose of depressing job searching and all the "AI editor" jobs are disappearing without a trace. Is nature healing?
Avatar
No. Writers who were hired as writers within companies are now being told, surprise, your job is now editing AI output. The jobs aren’t disappearing, they’re being shoved onto already employed writers, who didn’t sign up for that and in this market can’t get other work.

Goddammit I should have known. What horseshit. are the unions getting involved?
Avatar
Game writers aren’t usually covered by writers unions in the United States, and companies based outside the U.S. can get away with going around unions because they’re foreign companies.
Avatar
And there will be fewer; that's where the savings versus cost of commercial-level AI licenses comes in.
Avatar
they were taken by ai interview candidates
Avatar
(but in all seriousness, yay!)
Avatar
Definitely feels that way with translation jobs. The "We're looking for a candidate who's open minded who about the use of AI in translation" ads are now a tiny minority. The downside is that in-office jobs are making a comeback but, you know, baby steps. We'll get to the good place, eventually.
Avatar
What a relief. Now they're all going to try to memory-hole it lol
Avatar
Oh I wrote down a few company names when this fad was at its height and posted it in a translator group chat a while back. I hope no one ever works for them again.

Avatar
Maybe they’re learning that people aren’t enthused about being paid less to do a worse job
Avatar
I don't have a lot of faith that they've learned anything tbh. Hope they're shitting themselves though
Avatar
I mean what editor wouldn’t love fact checking every single assertion in an article because literally anything in it could be made up?
Avatar
This was the exact same bullshit hype cycle as blockchain. They've learned nothing.
Avatar
Not one thing. But at least a whole lot of journalists lost their livelihoods in an election year!

Avatar
I’ve noticed this as well. It’s pretty hard to miss, actually. Even just 3 months ago there were oodles of ‘em

Just last week!! Guess we truly are in a new fiscal season

Few things made me shudder like "prompt engineer"
Avatar
I did not see that cursed phrase until now and I'm so glad I didn't
Avatar
just think 5 years ago that phrase would have meant "a complex machine repair worker who seems to be there right when you need em"
Avatar
One of those magical fake fucking jobs AI was supposed to give us
Avatar
Is "AI editor" basically "make AI output make sense, be not bad and wrong"?
Avatar
Yeah it's basically editing bad copy with extra steps for half the pay
Avatar
Would you hate me if I applied to one? Reluctantly?
Avatar
Of course not! I only hate companies for being so greedy and filthy and making shortsighted decisions that I hope they get run the fuck out of dodge for, not for working folks who just need a living wage. I would apply myself but my ego gets in the way and I get infuriated all over again
Avatar
Sometimes it's cranking out words for training material infinitely to fill gaps. :/
Avatar
Or they found an AI to do the AI
Avatar

If I had stupid money instead of hiring a band to follow me around and play a soundtrack throughout my day I'd pay you to write on the fly. Man, I'll bet you could make my daily walks in the park SHINE! Ooh, maybe some light investigative journalism on all the childhood stuff I trauma blocked.
Avatar
I heard that at outlier a lot of scammers set up bots to generate "content," make a quick $80 x however often they could pull it off before getting booted. and overloaded the systems with garbage. No idea if that's 100% but it's funny!
Avatar
Unless they have now hired a bunch of poor desperate people
Avatar
There's no way they wouldn't still be advertising for those jobs if they had though
Avatar
Never mind there's a depressing explanation upthread - they're adding it to writer workloads
Avatar
Hahahhhahahahaa fuck AI so hard

Avatar
they replaced every "prompt engineer" with a very small shell script
Avatar
Prob morphing to something worse yet to be revealed.
Avatar
Oh for sure. And they're still around here and there, but quietly disappearing
Avatar
Dammit Brooke. 😂

Guessing the smarter editors and writers gave those job a 🖕🏻 Or, thinking about how many folks are out of work, they filled them quickly. Really hoping it’s the first option.
Avatar
Maybe they got AI to edit the AI… 😂🤣

it’s the ai now that is edited
