Working through institutions seem a little pointless too. The dark forces either try to tear them down (cut fundings et al.) or pervert them by getting their own people in there (ministries, courts, governments, all). We desperately need new means.

I did some math and at 9mph and 175k tons the amount of energy to stop the ship in 100 feet (rough estimate) is about 3.06 x 10^10 Joules, or the explosive equivalent of almost 10 GBU-28B 5000lb bunker buster bombs. Back of the envelope, but that gives you an idea of the order of magnitude.

MLK is a great example of why just following polls and doing whatever is popular at the time isn't always a good idea. I Have a Dream was 1963. The Civil Rights Act was 1964. By 1966, King's net approval was -30, with 44% highly unfavorable. Over time, large majorities realized he was right.
