I am not going to moralise to anyone else what the principles under which they vote should be but I will say that I simply do not agree with the general thesis that voting for a party always means a wholesale endorsement of /every single plank of their platform/
This would only be true in a world where not voting for someone had power in itself, i.e. every person who didnt vote for candidate X deleted one vote from the candidate's tally
They're still delaying on the necessary track renewal works to the line east of Coleraine or adding passing loops, so I don't expect it to come to fruition. But the business case for a parkway station at Derry airport is pretty strong.
Yeah you are stating your preference for a proposed bundle of goods over one or more others and at the point of the general election you don't have control over the individual parts.
Okay, but Labour's stances on trans rights (and Gaza, and immigration) have crossed a red line. Like, it's not like a difference in priorities or approach, they're actively regressive on this.
And there are alternatives *which aren't that* available!
There's a big difference too between what your local candidate supports and believes, and what a party leader does. Elections are so rarely single issue too.
A lot of people seem to have it in their head that being a Democrat means you have to uncritically agree with everything the party does when all it really means is you get to vote in the primaries in some states.
It’s odd that it’s the politically disconnected who get that best: on election day sometimes you’re just picking up the best weapon for twatting the people you want to hurt the most.
Not to mention a something beeing party platform by ittself doesn't mean it actually happening . Think about what you genuinely expect to happen from each party and vote for what is best or in some cases least objectionable.
Also tactical voting in the british system plays a huge role. If there's only one option that can realistically beat the worst option possible voting for that is also imho fine.
