Sorry to all my lawyer friends who spent a bunch of time learning how law works in the US. I had friends who were Flash developers and things turned out alright for them after they pivoted to C# or whatever. Hopefully there's an equivalent for our national legal system

At least there is some dignity in C# development ….

pivoting from conlaw to foreign refugee laws or whatever

what are these things you call laws?

Got to have some legal minds there to protect the company from lethal lemonade liability

Probably still better pay than being a public defender

Let's not forget Cinnabon. That's where Saul ended up.

Is that better or worse than DMX working at IHOP?

That is a tough call, but cinnamon rolls are always awesome.
Avatar
Fair enough. And I get food poisoning from IHOP every time I go.
Avatar
I firmly believe many US lawyers are entirely capable of pivoting into Flash development.

this was Friday. I'm digging in even more today.

Hmm my understanding of the consequence of the Chevron decision lead me to believe lawyers will have quite a lot of work now (though they may not enjoy it)

It's rather difficult to counsel your clients when the law doesn't matter, only the opinion of 5 or more corrupt assholes.

There is the lucrative career for "lawyers" who can divine the wants and needs of the Corrupt 6. "My legal advice to you is to look for the camper that John Oliver offered... It might now be a good solution for your legal woes"
Avatar
Is it? Don't you just have to negotiate the size of the bri --- I mean, "gratuity" to arrive at the preferred outcome?
Avatar
corrupt legal systems have lawyers too. arguably people have greater need of them when the legal system is essentially arbitrary: you need someone who already understands the arbitrators, has a good relationship with them, and knows what will get them to rule in your favor.
Avatar
I'm pretty sure the best alternative right now is to learn Canadian law, in Canada.

Public defenders already knew it was like this. We’ve all watched the courts rewrite the law to maintain a bad conviction. We’ve all watched judges bend over backwards or tie themselves in knots to protect cops. Not surprised, but still disappointed. I do feel bad for the ivory tower crowd, though.
Avatar
I mean, if you ask C# a question about Ukraine does it ramble on for 20 minutes about windmills? Because that's our new legal system.
Avatar
Oh, don't worry, the laws of property have been left thoughtfully undisturbed. It's just the foundations of the administrative state and our founding principles that have been undermined.

if (defendant == 'democrat') prosecute() else ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Now they are historians. It's a respectable position.

Yeah. It's been an okay run I suppose. Sorry to see democracy so unceremoniously murdered.

The only good thing about all this is seeing smug law professors have an existential crisis

Jackbooted interrogators? Rubber stamp wielders for govt prosecutions? TV pundits in suits parroting the latest party talking points? So many choices!

The new equivalent of our legal system will be Flash.

Google, translate Kremlinology into English

All your laws are belong to us

The good news is that >95% of us don't do any legal work that is affected by major Supreme Court opinions.

The pivot from action script to c# was pretty easy. I can’t think of a legal equivalent.

These are 2 different worlds.

Yeah, there is. 18th century British law.

Ouch. That hits close to home.
