If not for the British, the United States simply wouldn’t be in this mess right now, I’m just saying
technically, the United States is very much Britain’s fault
Avatar
will not be celebrating america on the 4th so much as i will be celebrating the defeat of the British that one time

The Fourth of July: the sun never sets on celebrating the defeat of Britain

Really, I think the Algonquian Confederacy would have things running smoothly for the last few centuries.

the united states, canada, australia, and new zealand all share a common culture and that culture is stinky british shit

[Looks across the sea] you know, I'm not sure that I'd rather have their mess than our mess.
Avatar
I would. One reason: way fewer guns.

It's easier to get into a relatively safe place in the US than it is to get into a relatively not-poor place in the UK.
Avatar
and it’ll cost you a hell of a lot more too. I’ll take Europe thanks.
Avatar
Actually, the housing crisis in most of Europe is worse than in the US, and the UK has possibly the worst housing crisis of any non-microstate in Europe.
Avatar
Thanks for your Well Actually but I’m from the U.S. and live in Germany and while I’m aware of the housing crisis I’m also aware of the absurd cost of living in safer parts of the U.S.
Avatar
Crime rates are multiple times higher in the US than they are in the UK. "Not poor" places in the US arn't inherently safe. And a poor place in the UK doesn't make it dangerous, especially compared to similar places in the US.
Avatar
You seem to be forgetting that in poor parts of the UK ppl have something just as scary as guns to worry about: not being able to consistently afford AC or heating.
Avatar
Lack of household AC is not an indicator of poverty in the UK. Nobody has it. What would be the point of installing something which would only be used for about five days every year?

Avatar
There are no relatively safe places in the US when it comes to firearms.
Avatar
Gary Younge had a line about the UK being more violent but the US being much more deadly that I think about a lot.
Avatar
I’m often entertained at how much some people from the UK don’t truly understand that the US isn’t just populated by descendants of whoever was here in 1789 (see anger at US siding with Ireland on anything), but that cuts both ways: there’s been *plenty* of time to undo the damage
Avatar
There’s no crime that can’t be laid (accurately) at the feet of the British.
Avatar
We could have been New France and that would have been a whole thing....
Avatar
I have to say, the track record of ex-French colonies isn’t exactly stellar.
Avatar
Well, it appears the United States is returning to a monarchy. Everything comes full circle.

America left home early and made bad life choices as a result.
