What I worry about after that SCOTUS decision is Trump giving a series of escalating commands until someone in the chain decides to grab the wheel. There was a few hours on 1/6 where the brass decided the best course of action was to treat Pence as POTUS.
There clearly was, and the real danger in what SCOTUS has done is that they've removed the soft part as an option. If the legal system provides no downstream remedy for criminal conduct by the executive, then the historical examples for how a body politic deals with it aren't great.
