Marc E Elias: NEW: In 2021, my team sued New York over its ban on handing out food and water to people waiting in line to vote. Inexplicably, the state fought us for three year. In May, we won. The deadline to appeal has now passed. Congratulations to our clients.

Remember the SCOTUS decision about the Jan 6th rioters charges? Well, guess what? Yet again, click bait media overlooks the fact that zero defendants will avoid prosecution because of this decision. Details here ⏬️ castbox.fm/app/castbox/...

And yet the partisan hacks in the SCOTUS says 34-felon is free to do it again! "A state appeals court found that Giuliani, as a personal attorney to... Donald Trump, “baselessly attacked and undermined the integrity of this country’s electoral process.” www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Decarceration in the US has been almost exclusively a Dem-voting county endeavor, despite rhetoric abt bipartisanship. In a sample of 27 states (holding ~75% of the ppl in prison), Democratic-leaning counties were responsible for ~90% of the decline. And ironically, CA makes the GOP look good:

I see some good ideas being suggested, but here's my entry: he can now *commercially* pirate music, since to really be criminal rather than civil, needs to be commercial. So he could set up the White House's official pirate streaming service. And no one could do anything.
Okay, folks, who is putting together the list of the funniest crimes that Biden should be committing between now and election day to highlight the absurdity of today's immunity ruling? Not the stuff like assassinations. Just stuff to make a point.

The Framers: *literally wrote many, many passages that you would swear on your life were prophetic visions of Donald J. Trump, and how such a figure must be guarded against at all costs* John Roberts: surely what they wanted is for this uniquely lawless figure to be placed above the law
"...this opinion depends on an implicit belief that the only person who would act so brazenly is Trump, and that because the majority of the justices on the Court support Trump and want him to be president, he must be shielded from prosecution."

Can't be impeached because presidential impeachment has been a dead letter since parties came into existence. Can't be disqualified from office. And can't be prosecuted for crimes committed under color of office.

Over the weekend, I found a tiny pink plastic shoe on the ground near my office. I placed it at eye level, on a wooden post, by the stairs. This morning, on that same post, was this picture.

Of course it's being coordinated. That's what the Federalist Society *is*. It's a conspiracy against Americans' freedom, self governance and the rule of law and it's winning bsky.app/profile/debt...
It beggars belief that this is not all being coordinated in some way.

If you are a citizen, you own this country. It's not owned by a king, by the president, or by the rich. You own it. For now, but not forever. Will you decide to vote away that ownership? Vote it away from your children? It's time to decide. www.youtube.com/live/vtc_n4T...

I'm not evangelical, nor particularly religious by any stretch: I am a queer Hispanic woman from Texas. the point of my thread is that ceding to despair totally undermines possibilities for community, solidarity, and the mobilization of both for good.

I really have lost my former tolerance for "we're doomed/fucked/it's all over/they've won" takes at this point, in that they're the most dangerous attitudes one could possibly have when confronted with a truly existential political threat (which we still DO have levers to address).

saying this is NOT the same thing as saying that the situation is no big deal and everything will be fine - but the truth is, when things look really bad, ceding defeat before you've actually been *defeated* is a completely useless strategy.

Related: the conflicts we are engaged with right now have been at the heart of American life for our entire history, and the push-and-pull has been constant. We will not be permanently defeated *unless we surrender.*

i tend to think that all of the elections are important but this one is simply as stark as can be. it is pretty much a direct up/down vote about whether you would like to have meaningful elections again in your life.
