who knows how often i'll actually publish these, but here's a thing i've been working on. it's too long, i am not a professional writer (at least not this way) but i thought he was fun to talk to. hopefully it's fun to read. plenty of playlists to be found on the site, too.
Leo | Tattooergolikehellmachine.com I’ve tried to do other normal-ish kinds of jobs, and I was very, very bad at them.

i absolutely cheated by interviewing my lifelong best friend and bandmate first, but it's not like anyone's paying for this, and he has a pretty unique job a lot of people don't know much about, except as a customer.

lightly editing Bob's comment, "very good"

I was gonna say I thought I saw him in a video.

I don't think it's too long man, this as is was a great read.

hey, thanks! hopefully i get better at it.

This is a nice piece and it was fun to read - there are good people, good neighborhoods & good jobs out there. Life can be good.

Look at you starting a blog in this year twenty-twenty four! That was a great read.

thanks, hopefully more to come!

I AM a professional (ish) writer and an editor, and this was excellent and full of personality and voice. Also, my tattoo artist has a NE Portland neighborhood shop(pe) and your description of a day at your shop echoes my good experiences there.
Avatar
thank you, i really appreciate it! i think people don't really think about what tattooers think about this kind of stuff, particularly if they've been in a neighborhood a long time
Avatar
I've never been to a tattoo shop or met a tattoo artist so I'd never know what that life is like without reading this. Excellent piece
Avatar
Solid start! How often you think you'll do these?
Avatar
Oh fun, hope you enjoy it and keep it up!
Avatar
this is quite good. Makes me think a lot about how (and maybe why) tattooing is sodeeply rooted human history.

ngl the habits to stick with this sort of thing *are* tough to build, but you are off to a great start and I wish you luck! 🫡

This reminds me of some of the pieces I’ve seen about bartending being a hospitality job as much or more than it is a technical job.
Avatar
one day i'm gonna get @bartenderhemry.bsky.social on here if i can keep it up

Congrats for putting this out there! I’ve got to go to bed (after midnight here and need to get up early), but I’ll give it a read tomorrow.

This was a fun read. For me, the best part was the 10 songs. Glad to see someone else is playlisting Hockey Dad.
Avatar
thanks! there will be more of those to come for sure
Avatar
good luck keeping aussie rock to just 10 songs at a time...

This is great! I look forward to future installments!

Great interview. You should tell him that most San Franciscans hate the damn QR code ordering thing too.

I love this. It reminds me of the book "Working" by Studs Terkel.

thanks! that’s def a big influence

Well done! I also like the bold text, it makes it feel like you’re sitting there with me saying, hey, this part is super cool, right?
Avatar
hey, thank you, that's a really helpful comment!

Hot damn, I'm so glad you started doing it! Great read, man.

Did he mention the name of the parlor in Hawaii? My last tat was done by one of two brothers that we knew who were originally from the Newberg area and had relocated to Maui. Spike and Jaxon. (Would happily DM a pic, I've always thought it is an exceptional design).

i am like 99.9% sure he was in waikiki

Ah, well then. If they island hopped at all, I hope the OR contingent met up and enjoyed a home brew together! You know how they are with home brewing! Lol
