It’s weird how conservatives think having more kids than liberals means there will be more conservatives when every Drag Race contestant’s bio is “I grew up in a town where the only employers were the church and the prison, I was raised by my aunt after my mom was executed for working on Sunday”

Kathy Hochul bravely defending the rights of New Jersey drivers to kill New Yorkers under their irresponsibly huge trucks for FREE because why come to the city and drink and then take the PATH home when you could just murder people
do we think this guy from New Jersey would have driven his pickup truck to Manhattan to get drunk had there been a $15 congestion pricing fee in place?

This is the entire view of the right and one they’re pushing out tons of propaganda about. It’s why we get 10,000 stories of people shoplifting from Walgreens and nothing about tax cheats even though it involves multitudes more money. They want to define crime as existing entirely within the poor
Holy. Shit. They're literally saying Trump's felonies aren't that bad compared to the "real felonies". Bear in mind, they're ignoring J6 and "gimme 12000 votes" call and the stolen docs. We joke, but this is literally Newsmax copy.

so I didn't realize this is something that has slowly been happening to me until I read this post. wasn't in the aging manual I was given back when I turned 30.
Can you guys read without making facial expressions? I have lost this ability as I’ve aged

if you put someone in a room with twenty people and had all twenty recite some false event the person supposedly experienced, the person is likely as not to simply construct the memory. social consensus is literally more powerful than memory, something liberal politics ignores

the problem is that most Americans didn’t watch the debate, and the ones that did aren’t going to rewatch it, which means their “recollection” is actually just what they’re hearing about it, which is that Biden was catatonic and couldn’t talk for 90 minutes
i refuse to believe that americans who watched the debate think that biden’s first 15 minutes are somehow stronger evidence of old age decline than falling asleep, *in public*, DURING YOUR OWN FUCKING CRIMINAL TRIAL, *IN COURT IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE AND JURY*, but, you know, i’m not a columnist.

Just like none of the bold investigators backfilling Joe Biden's feeble debate performance with punchy anonymous quotes have ever figured out why Trump was rushed to Walter Reed, claimed he wanted a spur-of-the-moment weekend checkup, and a year later declared that he had NOT had a series of strokes
"Executive Time" fell out of the coverage of Donald Trump in the most incredible way. Nobody writing about his quest to become president again ever mentions the fact that he hated the job when he had it and he couldn't and wouldn't really do it!

false alarm, everybody. Trump mistakenly believed "Project 2025" was about finding him a new wife and he believed 20-25 would be too old. hope this clarifies!

Explosive reporting in Le Monde confirms what was apparent all week: Macron resisted the emergence of anti-far-right front after round 1. His PM, Attal, forced it as a fait accompli, & pressured for drop outs to block RN. Even then, Macron made some phone calls to undercut it.

the “some folks just need killing” thing out of north carolina reminds me of a third thing these annoying people are right about: as long as the republican bloodlust grows and their power is unbroken, every election probably will be the most important one of your life
sometimes the most annoying people in politics can be right. the orange man is indeed bad. if you vote, you shouldn’t vote for republicans under any circumstances, which typically leaves one option

Lmao they just changed the title of the piece from “Why I don’t vote” to “Why I won’t vote” rather than tell readers that the guy actually does vote

sorta weird how all of America's elite institutions simultaneously began to freak out about living in a gerontocracy exactly a week ago
IMO this is a straight-up ageist and ableist image, no?

It's pretty interesting what the media decides is front page news and what they don't decide is front page news! Trump being a child sex abuser with close connections to Jeffrey Epstein somehow doesn't merit the same coverage as "unnamed Dem insider has concerns about Biden's age"
I saw this was trending and had to google it "The post alleges that Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for this year's presidential election, "forced" young girls to "perform lesbian sex acts."
Donald Trump, Katie Johnson allegations: Everything we knowwww.newsweek.com Allegations from a lawsuit that was dismissed in 2016 are circulating on social media.

It's not just that it's a piece against voting, it's a fake world-weary article about how civic disengagement is good from a guy with radical reactionary politics who spends his life doing advocacy (including publishing this op-ed in the New York Times)

If you have the Vichy Twitter mobile app on your cell phone at this point you are a sucker. Trusting Elon Musk with the permissions that app requires is insane bsky.app/profile/jedg...
Chrome extensions like blue blocker make the desktop version workable, but lack of the same on the app or mobile browser make it much worse. The blue check prioritization ruined the usage for me.

I think @mtsw.bsky.social said, "don't print lies in the newspaper" is an infallible moral heuristic, and he's right, and it is one that the New York Times opinion page manages to fail on an almost-weekly basis.

remember, induced demand is a one-way ratchet: you expand/add roads, you encourage more traffic into places that are already congested. so what then? you add more lanes, of course! but now that newly widened road is also attracting more traffic. uh oh... I guess we need another route in!

It is time to stop paying the New York Times a dime. Yes, that includes Wordle and the recipes. Sorry.
The New York Times ratfucking operation in favor of Trump is so incredibly blatant that it’s beyond parody. If you saw ratfucking like this coming from a newspaper in a movie, you’d probably think it was a bit over the top.

You’re never going to be able to understand modern politics until you stop ignoring the role that the medium of communication plays. People today spend truly massive amounts of time immersed in various forms of media - mostly online! The narratives and dynamics of this media shapes their world.

I just counted home page stories. The Daily Caller has five anti-Biden and six pro-Trump stories. The New York Times has seven anti-Biden stories and three that give this style of both-sides treatment to Trump. The Times really is sprinting off a cliff to satisfy their nepo-publisher’s vendetta.
