It's been a long time (thankfully) since America experienced a prolonged deflation but it used to be fairly common in the gold standard days...and probably the biggest reason we don't have a gold standard anymore. The result is usually double digit unemployment.

People joke about weather forecasts but in when the rubber hits the road, this would be very upsetting and in the end cost lives (albeit not lives the GOP values).
I can't stop thinking about how Trump would eliminate our free, public weather service, NOAA. It's an institution that goes back 53 years and protects Americans everyday with warnings for tornados, thunderstorms and more. That's the Project 2025 plan. www.theatlantic.com/science/arch...

Not really surprised, offline the reaction was very, very muted. Most people seemed to want to enjoy their summer without the histrionics.

Absolutely, not just the right to an abortion but in many states the right to proper health care in the case of a emergency during a pregnancy.
It's like everyone forgot Dobbs in the last month. I know a lot of pundits don't think it's still a big deal. I vehemently disagree.

I’m sorry a Republican voter shot at the Republican leader at a Republican rally, and especially that he killed a Republican rally-goer and injured two more. I wish it didn’t happen, and hope nothing like it ever happens again. I just don’t see how non-Republicans could be the ones to solve it.

during my K-12 years, RFK, MLK, were assassinated and attempts were made on Wallace, Ford (twice) and Reagan...it kinda does give a different perspective.
I'm going to get yelled at for this, but the guy who wrote this is young enough that 2016 would have been the first presidential election he could've voted in. Maybe let someone who participated in one election without Trump on the ballot assess how "historic" everything in this campaign has been?

Getting increasingly pissed off by various politicians "distraught" today. This is America, where every day we wonder if this when someone we love gets mowed down by a shooter. Pretending to be shocked just shows you don't get it. Trump has a Secret Service detail to protect him. My kids don't.

Yeah, the assumption with statements like this is the guns will always be pointed away from you...I'd like to think some self-reflection would occur but from what I've seen so far, probably not.
A reminder that Donald Trump has spent years fanning the flames and fomenting political violence. Recall 2016, when he said the "Second Amendment people" could stop Hillary Clinton's Supreme Court picks if she won. This era of violent political rhetoric should've ended in 2016.

This fall, teachers all across the nation will lead K-12 students in active shooter drills. If you are opposed to the political violence that occurred today, lets oppose school violence as well and bring about sensible policies to reduce both.

Thread...on the econ front, Americans would receive a true education on who really puts food on the table.
The mass deportation scheme is probably the most immediately scary part of Trump 2025. It’s not just the just the forcible deportation of millions of people and accompanying family disruption That’s bad enough. Nor is the let’s-see-what-pulling-this-lever-does-hurr economic recklessness./1

It should not be forgotten that no one is more responsible for the myth of Trump as a business genius than the NYC media. It was always left to smaller outlets like the Village Voice to do honest reporting on him.

This is actually a good idea...
I genuinely wonder what would happen if Biden gave prepared remarks that were basically five minutes of uninterrupted, verbatim transcripts from a Trump rally and, after everyone just stared at him aghast, he just launched into a tirade about how this is just Trump shit and maybe go cover that.

As I like to put it, red counties only produce 30% of GDP, high higher crime rates, and lower life expectancy. I would not expect extrapolating those local/state policies nationally to produce positive results.
Seems worth noting that the Republican platform makes a big deal out of fighting crime and inflation, both of which have been plummeting

Students ask me about Musk/Mars all the time and I tell them the hardware (rockets and so on) are possible but still very costly while the biophysical/psychological challenges remain a formidably challenge and yeah, eugenics is not going to fix that one.

Props to Whataburger - my go to fast food place when I'm in Texas (no way am I going to Jack in the Box).
WTF. The electric company in Texas doesn't have a map of outages so people have been using the Whataburger App to figure out who lost power. This is like when Homer was using the Krusty Burger map when they got lost at sea.

When I talk to people who are into crypto, their thing tends to be they want to evade paying taxes and not be bugged by the IRS (not surprisingly, they are Trump fans). They think of flourishing is not paying taxes - they are not above using the gov't themselves, they just don't want to pay for it.
As an aside, because I led the WH crypto & climate report (www.whitehouse.gov/ostp/news-up...) I spent a lot of time reading crypto stuff. Encouraging “human flourishing” was this weird in-group term that nearly all of them would use describing crypto. Human flourishing also needs a livable climate.
