I still believe the most functional definition for the modern Democratic Party is the party of anticipatory surrender.

Another feature worth including in a new Judiciary Act would send Matthew Kacsmaryk, Aileen Cannon, and other judges of the like packing to a new circuit court of appeals that covers the Northern Marianas and the state of West Dakota.
Judge Cannon’s rationale for the postponement is that a large number of pretrial motions remain unresolved, a state of affairs that she has literally engineered by failing to resolve them.

Last summer my friend Angelyn, who's heading up a project to revitalize the Eric Canal, shared her work with me, and I wrote about the canal's history, maintenance + potential revitalization for Scope of Work: www.scopeofwork.net/2023-07-31/?... Today, the BBC has a nice travel feature:

Just a reminder: Trump inherited the lowest homicide rate of any president in 50 years. He was the first president in 30 years to leave office with a higher homicide rate than when he entered. And the rate has dropped every year since he left. www.foxnews.com/video/635815...

Yes - people's reactions to skeets on here aren't coming from nowhere. Angry skeets exist in the context of all in which they live and what came before them!

Ride out onto the battlefield with my little burro, bearing the banner "Complicity Is A Prosecutor's Friend, Not Yours"
99% of the time someone uses the word “complicit”, they are trying to be rhetorically powerful, rather than analytically useful. The only way to be non-complicit is to obey their demand, and little room for for thought or response. It’s why prosecutors love using the framing.

This is insane.
I learned at an engineering conference recently that one crypto mine in TX, 100s of MW, makes more money off ERCOT demand response markets than it does off crypto repeat: TX ratepayers pay them more to sometimes stop mining than they make by actual mining just bananas misuse of power markets 🔌💡

Alternative framing: A presidential candidate who organized a coup on live TV is the odds-on favorite to return to office and carry out an explicitly authoritarian agenda, *80*% of Americans think his opponent is too old, and some people think that's not a reason to change course
There’s a presidential candidate who organized a coup on live TV and was recently convicted of dozens of felonies for something entirely separate, and the political system is demanding his opponent step down.

A thing that is weird in this, the worst written timeline, is that Anne Gorsuch, the first woman to run the US Environmental Protection Agency, is responsible for the Chevron decision. Neil Gorsuch is her son. Dude chose compromising SCOTUS over family therapy.

The Secret Service is constantly at the White House. From this we can conclude that the President is a secret.
Chefs were seen at the White House at least once a day last month. From this we can only conclude the president is a steak.

From “The Big Truck That Went By” (2013)
One of the biggest problems with how we talk about democracy in this country is that so much of it is simply centered on voting, as if the most minimum requirement for a democracy is also all that defines it.

If Biden said something like this it would spell the end of not only his campaign but his current tenure. It's just one of countless examples of insane gibberish from Trump that the press & Democrats are choosing to treat as an immutable part of the electoral landscape rather than a story or issue.
