Just going to put this out there: Biden has been the most legislatively effective president since LBJ. The most pro-labor president WW2. He's done more re climate change than any POTUS. He's built an international coalition for Ukraine despite Russia-fueld GOP opposition. And yeah: he's hella old.

The best state. Don’t at me.
Congratulations to @bsky.app, which just passed the six million users mark. That's roughly the size of the population of the great state of Maryland. Please have some cake (crab OR Smith Island, or both!) to celebrate!

Bit the bullet and did what I should have long ago and canceled my NYT sub. FYI if you are desperate to read an NYT or WaPo article you can get a renewable one-day pass from the DC Library (does not include cooking or crosswords).

After spending the last year drafting a plan to conserve the Chesapeake watershed, with constant political pressure that a changing climate is “a distraction”… I’m feeling some kind of way that nearly a million people can’t safely drink tap water because record heat led to algal blooms

Arlington: if you’re wondering if there’s a Covid surge locally, one data point from the Walgreens on Langdon Blvd: they have zero covid tests any more. Not Binax, not Walgreens brand. Nada. They had tons of boxes last month. I bought the last two today.

Reminder from a Pittsburgher who was at one point Mr. Rogers neighbor: “Look for the helpers” was intended to be advice for his usual audience, children. We’re grown ups now. We’re supposed to be the helpers.

Most *white* Americans. There is no country on earth that imprisons more of its population than the US. Prisoners disproportionately Black. The US leads the world in child executions. Not a typo. Disproportionately Black. Life expectancy for US Black folk lower than for Uighur Chinese. Not a typo
Pretty much. What it mostly boils down to is that most Americans really don’t have the faintest idea what living under modern authoritarian regimes actually looks like, and how it’s often at the same time way more boring and way more scary than they’d imagined.

So one thing that is supposed to help reduce symptoms is to avoid stress. Well… hahaha guess who feels queasy right now. So here are some more cute animals.
Woke up and had my first attack of positional vertigo for a few hours. I rolled over and it felt like my bed collapsed and the entire room was spinning, except it was my eyes twitching so fast it gives you nausea and headache. Luckily my sister has it and I knew to focus on one point in the room.
