Can I cite myself? “I’ve been thinking about how often that ‘master’s tools’ quote comes up and I was thinking about how frozen in time it seems because we’ve had almost 40 years of writing by Black feminists and Black scholars. We’ve had so many tools developed.”

Next time you see someone quote Audre Lorde's 'master's tools' at you, ask them 2 questions: 1. Can you please define what YOU think the master's tools are currently? 2. What else does she say in that essay?

I think a lot about the fact that a lot of people don't have safe places in real life to say to someone else: "I'm really scared." So people use social media for that but don't preface the posts with: "I'm really scared." It usually comes out as "we're all doomed and gonna die" or as jokes.
This is really no time to insult people for being afraid.

See, using gulags to torture political prisoners to death is not Josef Stalin's plan. The Council of People's Commissars, who describe him as the "embodiment" of their efforts, made a plan *for* Stalin. Stalin, however, has sought to publicly distance himself from the effort, as reported by Pravda.

Seeing even this small snippet put in plain language is just devastating:

I don’t think “but can they do that?” is the most informed question to guide Project 2025 analysis, not without “what do they mean by that?” and “are they already working on that?” and “who are their allies on that?”

brb writing a darkly comic near-future SF novel where FEMA and NOAA and USGS got junked and all the actual disaster and weather experts went to work logistics at fast casual restaurant chains
WTF. The electric company in Texas doesn't have a map of outages so people have been using the Whataburger App to figure out who lost power. This is like when Homer was using the Krusty Burger map when they got lost at sea.

CLASSIFYING ABORTION AS A 14TH AMENDMENT ISSUE IS NOT "TEMPERING" LANGUAGE ON ABORTION, IT IS EXPLICITLY IDENTIFYING FETAL PERSONHOOD AS A PARTY GOAL THAT'S WHY THE GOP AGREED TO IT THEY LIKE IT IT DOES WHAT THEY WANT IT TO DO: ALLOW THE PROSECUTION OF ABORTION AS HOMICIDE
Trump-backed Republican platform tempers language on abortionwww.reuters.com The Republican Party released its platform on Monday that denies anti-abortion activists within the party the far-reaching language they sought on abortion and embraces the views of its presidential candidate, Donald Trump.

Please note the wildly incorrect polling in France. No matter what the cacophony of pundits keep saying, polls are not predictive, and are never the end of the story. Organizing, volunteering, engaging in conversation, and direct action are effective tools. Let's use them here too.
BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

There are many things that infuriate me about the pundit class right now, but probably one of the top on my list: Project 2025 has posted their plans for every single federal department on their website. They have a training academy for prospective appointees. Where are the hard hitting op-eds?

Speaking as a shy extrovert who recently moved out of state for a new job: a) thanks, I needed that, and b) one of the nice things about leaving a job is that you get to like the people you liked and leave the ones you didn't. I miss the good people and I do stay in touch w/them if/when I can.

EdTech is where higher education institutes, government bodies & tech corps are pushing AI so hard yet with no evidence of the benefits (plenty of evidence against it). this report is another evidence that should caution all pushing AI into education to just STOP and evaluate the evidence

Yeah, that was really unfortunate. I wasn't going anywhere at the time and appreciated it streaming, but yeah, it seemed to hurt the reception of the film, which was great.

I loved Inside Out 2 almost as much as I loved 1st film (was going to see #2 for a 2nd time tonight but am too wrung out from heat dome!). Did think"voyage thru Riley's brain" part dragged (except for "projection" sequence & "sar-chasm"). But I thought the treatment of Anxiety's grip was brilliant.+

Loved seeing such a clear representation of what an anxiety/panic attack feels like,& how that was resolved. As with 1st film, catharsis at the very end is so nicely done. Also agree w/you that needed more on body changes + emotions (example of Turning Red is right there!)

The problem isn't that AI can do your job (it can't). The problem is management thinks AI can do your job.
The NYT laying off half it’s art dept as they ramp up the use of A.I. tools is 100% related to UArts closing due to a “steep drop in enrollment.” Regardless of A.I.’s actual capabilities the story being told to (and accepted by) business leaders is damaging the perceived value of the visual arts.
