The Federal Trade Commission, of all entities, is out here writing absolute bangers about AI snake oil. www.ftc.gov/business-gui...

We’ve got only 5-10% fewer assholes than the boomers, but Xennial non-assholes have an extremely low tolerance for fuckery.

Which makes him a Gen-Xer! Thanks for playing!

What happened to "late gen-xers" and "early 40s", Don? Clearly applying your "exceptionally creative and strategic thinking" skills here.

Clearly displaying reading comprehension in knowing my name, Jeeb!

lmao let’s keep this going. 56 is GenX Classic

"Succor borne every minute" may be one of the most high-brow terrible puns I've ever seen.

Lina Khan is awesome. She probably didn't write that release herself, but her FTC is kicking ass and taking names.

Much like the President themself, a big part of running a large agency is staffing it. Top-rate executives hire top-rate department managers and thus down the line. Second-rate executives hire third-rate etc etc.

“Outlook not so good” is the understatement of the year. Now do Teams.

Fascinating to contrast this with, say, the silence from CISA on "Recall"...
Avatar
The most disappointing reaction was none at all from CISA.
Avatar
I'm not surprised because CISA got absolutely gutted in the last couple of months of the previous administration so the entire recall fiasco may have started and then been finished before they ever got a chance to really do anything. Also, they were probably waiting to get a full preview build.

Possibly because Microsoft introduce some remediations very quickly after the launch?

Does the FTC have jurisdiction over car manufacturers? I would assume they would in a broad view, but would also not be surprised if there’s a carveout.
Avatar
Head of the FTC is force of nature Lina Khan. Not the least bit surprising that it’s “absolute bangers”
Avatar
I had read some about her pre-FTC and was legit surprised when Biden picked her for that role. Was amused when some corporate spokesdroid complained that - IIRC - she was biased against monopolies. Um ... yes?
Avatar
Avatar
Like, literally our whole government should be biased against monopolies!

God I love it when civil servants get to be pissed off officially. It is just 🤌

starting with a great pun! "Succor borne every minute"

The 1st commenter felt they had to explain it.

it's outside our daily register but great jokes demand a bit of stretch...

@arthfach.com You've been looking for some "good news" about the end of people getting AI pushed down their throats for as long as I've been aware of you, well here's hoping this is the start of a large victory!
Avatar
"Succor borne every minute" holy shit, I am in awe, this person has a second calling as a poet or short story author

My ad lawyer friends say this guy is legendary for these.

My heart is warmed by the reference to Fidrych; I wasn't sure he was remembered much outside the Detroit fandom. His career was extremely brief.

Whoa, that is brutal. It smacks of a government body facing annihilation in Jan if things don't go to plan in November, so there are nothing to lose with enforcement
