Confederate memorials were a key part of the revisionist Lost Cause campaign of the early 1900s to whitewash the role of slavery. The monuments themselves were efforts to “erase history” & anyone still defending them today is defending the lies of racists. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
RFK Jr. had a ‘visceral’ reaction to tear-downs of Confederate statueswww.washingtonpost.com Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said on a podcast that he doesn’t think “it’s a good, healthy thing for any culture to erase history.”
Avatar
I've said it before and I'll say it again: No history professor in my entire academic career ever assigned me a statue.

That "erasing history" bullshit is the stupidest reason to be mad at pulling down the statues of traitors ever invented. Just garbage. Go to a fucking library, Bobby, plenty of books about the Confederacy there (since that's one subject that Republicans won't ban).

To be fair, that’s just the worm in his brain talking

I’m now assuming the worm is from when he snorted an entire bottle of tequila up his nose

Might be unfair to the worm. The worm might even be a viable candidate if it weren’t for RFK holding it back
Avatar
Man, that worm is a huge racist.
Avatar
if i could talk through him i would have just announced my bowing out of the election. he's crazy all on his own without my help.
Avatar
"He didn't own slaves, he just caused the deaths of thousands of Americans while fighting to defend slavery, is that really so wrong?"
Avatar
Heroes, traitors...They're all free same, right? Sure thing, worm boy.
Avatar
One of us might have provided detailed instructions for their removal on Twitter, that were followed by multiple groups 😬
Avatar
To be fair I too have a visceral reaction when I see them torn down. Something along the lines of “fuck yeah melt that shit into a tin toilet so we can all take a dump on those losers.” Is that not what he meant?
Avatar
Maybe he didn't learn history. But I'm okay with him having all sorts of feelings that pull trump voters.
Avatar
I had a visceral reaction to the fact that anyone who is garnering as much polling support as he is would appear on Tim goddamn Pool’s podcast.
Avatar
Agreed, yet small potatoes compared TFG appearing on Alex Jones' InfoWars, no?
Avatar
Sure, I think that’s why it’s so irritating. It was never true, but we could maybe have convinced ourselves that Trump was some weird abnormality. But this is just how it is now. Guys like Jones and Pool are fully integrated into our media landscape, despite being the absolute worst.

they end the article with such a dumbass quote too “indigenous people who made the ultimate sacrifice” like they chose to be forcibly removed from their land in service of some noble or worthy cause? is RFK made completely out of brainworms or what
Avatar
He doesn't need to be fully made of them. It's enough that just one ate the area which allows one to recognize that they might be wrong.

If this is your reaction to loser monuments being torn down, may the rest of the scene occur
Avatar
Well, the good news is that jr seems to be more interested in winning over trump's supporters than biden's

Still can't believe that Larry David's TV wife is married to this charmer.

My dad went to his first couple years of school in Texas, had to relearn the history of The War Of Yankee Aggression when he moved to other states because apparently it was about slavery.
Avatar
I assume then he'd support erecting a heroic statue of Sirhan Sirhan in the name of preventing history from being erased.
Avatar
this, and i cannot emphasize it enough, fucking guy.
Avatar
"Lost Cause" should be his campaign slogan.

Avatar
As somebody said on Facebook: There are no statues of Hitler but we know who he is.
Avatar
The number of people who protested when the Confederate flag* was removed from statehouse grounds here in South Carolina.... man. "But you're erasing history!" "We're removing it because a racist fuckhead killed nine people." *actually the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia
Avatar
Curious how they don't need statues of the terrorists of 9/11 in public places to remember that event. Seems like they'd be chomping at the bit for those if they had any internal consistency.
Avatar
Why the hell is "traditional" media giving this yahoo with no hope of winning any oxygen at all?
Avatar
Because his last name is still a curiosity for some.
Avatar
I guess. Leave it to the sensationalist rags, I say
Avatar
Well that’s not what the worms told me, sir!

to be fair, he was too busy getting expelled from two different high schools to pick up all the nuances of US history (he got into Harvard anyway, of course)
Avatar
Get the feeling this guy just says whatever dumb shit he thinks the crowd at the time wants to hear.
This entire project drives me nuts. The confederate memorials were there to reinforce racism and scare away eastern and southern European immigrants: read catholics and jews. Folks supporting this don't believe in pluralism. KKK = Taliban.
Avatar
I saw a report today that I am sure you are aware of that shows that the removal of confederate statues lowers against people of color.
Avatar
Avatar
Ugh should read "lowers prejudice against people of color."
