It is glorious, to travel from Gare de Lyon, right down past Montpellier, down to Perpignan. Rested, conformable, so fast! But, it is €€€ I am in the UK. Our trains are garbage. And still incredibly expensive.

We live not too far from the Amtrak station (BNSF tracks) now and a high-speed line will eventually be a reality (for our grandchildren) here in the Central Valley. Watch most old movies made before 1950 and we can see how convenient rail travel used to be.

Our problem is quality high speed train service is a public service, yet we leave it to private enterprise. Buying tickets on amtrak is maddening as is. They want me to pay $73 to go from New York City to Newark, NJ tomorrow. I already had a ticket from my origin to New York for tomorrow. Ridiculous
