Happy Tory wipeout to all those who celebrate

I’m incapable of going a week without thinking about the time @cranz.bsky.social texted that she “thinks she could have invented the spoon, if given the chance”

The level of anxiety I have as someone who studied the social history of the 1930s for my college degree is very intense.

Bay is on my list of "dudes who would be great DPs but whose opinions as directors are... fraught"

I thought I couldn't hate any knowledge more than my index of "Jared Leto Asshole moments" and then I replaced it with knowledge about the foibles of Congress.

If there is one thing the Gawker union and EFF as an org has taught me it's how to build action out of a shared sense of community/anger.
Avatar
TBH, less efficient at those things than media.

I want people to know that one reason I left io9 for EFF was that everything was on fire in this country and I wanted to use whatever skills I had to help. So whatever I say, the thing about this job is that I no longer stay up all night wondering what more I could have done.

No, I do not recommend either journalism or nonprofit activism work. Like it IS spiteful but also frustrating and requires keeping up to date on politicians and companies to a degree that is just depressing.
Avatar
Yes... "coffee"... not the industrial strength solvent I'll need to do that

It's honestly deeply funny that they think calling me a stooge will make me upset.

All of my jobs have involved deeply angering politicians and giant companies and they truly don't understand how little they can hurt me. I used to write about science fiction on the internet as a woman.

The copyright maximalists try ad hominem attacks and it's just.. cute. I used to get death threats.

I once sent "As a born and raised Californian, your stance on this is embarassing"

As a rule, your favorite nonprofit will have ways for you to do this! Ours is act.eff.org.
Being really annoying is praxis. Phone, email, fax, show up in person if that’s an option. Just don’t let up until you’re too irritating to ignore.

Being really dogged in this is the best way to get things done. Because let me tell you: they do not care how many experts tell them their ideas are bad and possibly unconstitutional. They need to fear their constituents.
Avatar
Because I now live in San Francisco, I get to vent my anger directly into Nancy Pelosi's inbox and let me tell you: it helps.
Avatar
Gita, this is my actual job now. I am the stick used to against policymakers.

I had trouble remembering Liz Truss’s name today and found myself googling “uk pm pork markets”

People ask me “where will it stop” when I say we need to pack the court. To them I say: well, if it ends with every American on the court, we will finally have achieved true democracy

Last night I downloaded the audiobook for Midnight in Chernobyl and it is the most soothing part of this day

I laughed out loud at the @defector.bsky.social slack excerpts, thank you for your service.

I can’t get over how useless this thing is as a truck.

This was my view on the train and I agree.

My all-time favorite example was every single article about Star Wars: Rogue One they did. There was an absolute brain melter titled “How ‘Rogue One’ Backs Up The Founders’ Approach To Slavery”
An underremarked thing about The Federalist is that it recruits young white evangelicals who’ve been raised on lies and then immediately martyrs them to their stupidest opinions, which helps reproduce conservative Christianity’s animosity toward the broader culture in a new generation of writers

I love empire records so much. What’s with today, today?

Preeti, I’ve changed my mind about what we’re going to talk about on the video
