The Supreme Court of Georgia describing an obvious basis for recusal: you accuse a judge of prejudice and he acts unprofessionally in response. Mondy v. Magnolia Advanced Materials, Inc., 815 S.E.2d 70, 81 (Ga. 2018)

I kept digging into that AI company behind Sports Illustrated's fake writers. Turns out it's created tons more fake writers across the web, sometimes for surprisingly huge media clients. And then things get even wilder... For @futurism.bsky.social // futurism.com/advon-ai-con...

@strictscrutiny.bsky.social - Can any of you think of an instance where SCOTUS' fear of the "slippery slope" ever proved accurate?

This ER doc suing the FDA over mifepristone has been busy: fighting a malpractice suit in the death of a woman with a newborn; getting elected to the Indiana state lege; working with his lawyers in the mife case, Alliance Defending Freedom, to pass anti-trans legislation. New (and yikes) from me:
The Sketchy Career of an Anti-Abortion Doctor in the Mifepristone Casenewrepublic.com Tyler Johnson used his position as state senator to try to get a serious malpractice suit sealed, and has a long history of trying to ban health care he disapproves of.

Huh. Weird.
1/ Donald Trump's legal team has filed a brief & affidavit with the New York Appellate Division stating it's a "practicable impossibility" for Trump to get an appeal bond sufficient (110% of $454M) to stay execution of the judgment by NYAG Letitia James. iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewD...

In light of yesterday's ruling by Judge Hendrix in Lubbock, it seems like a good time to re-up my running list of lawsuits filed by Texas against the Biden administration in federal district courts in Texas. There are some ... patterns ... here:

A reminder that the E. Jean Carroll case is the opposite of the norm. Much more common is the alleged rapist or abuser suing the accuser (or the press) for defamation. Another reason why we need good anti-SLAPP laws that apply in all state and federal courts.
i just want to share that i won my court case. my rapist and abuser sued me and another survivor for defamation and lost on a directed verdict. it was extremely traumatic and i think it’s best i stay off the internet for a long time. but i am ok and grateful for all of your prayers.

Huge scoop by Erin Reed. Ohio and Michigan Republicans announced their intention to expand bans on gender affirming care to everyone. This isn't about protecting children, and never was. Bans on youth care were the first step of an attempt by the right to legislate trans people out of existence.

Using AI to create a face from crime-scene DNA & then running it through face recognition tech isn’t only “junk science,” EFF’s Jennifer Lynch told WIRED: “It’s very dangerous, because it puts people at risk of being a suspect for a crime they didn’t commit.”
Cops Used DNA to Predict a Suspect’s Face—and Tried to Run Facial Recognition on Itwww.wired.com Leaked records reveal what appears to be the first known instance of a police department attempting to use facial recognition on a face generated from crime-scene DNA. It likely won’t be the last.
