I'm not going to repost Megyn Kelly's toxic "why are Black women celebrating why they went to HBCUs" tweet, bc ... why? I'll just repost this instead. In case anyone had to wonder why HBCUs had to exist in the first place. And should be celebrated for what they opposed.

even if you can get the watergate tapes, aren't they arguably inadmissible under the court's standard in trump v us insofar as they involve official acts?
so is US v Nixon still good law

Still marveling at Gorsuch's Ohio v. EPA opinion, in which he confused nitrogen oxide (a pollutant) with nitrous oxide (laughing gas). He did this five times, never once getting it right—in an opinion overruling the EPA's own expert scientific analysis! s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

Climate Austerity is already here and while Americans will be insulated from the worst of CC it is still only a matter of time before things like AC are labeled something that you should work for, much like how conservatives did with refrigerators for the poor and still do with smartphones today.
Air conditioning is not a luxury - it’s life saving and makes it possible for people to remain healthy and alert in a warming climate.

A startlingly large number of people who die from heat stroke actually *had* air conditioning. But they didn’t turn it on until it was too late, due to fear of spending money “frivolously,” and misconceptions about how dangerous heat actually is.
if you have AC, please use it the 'costly luxury' mindworm means people turn it on at the worst times (peak heat), run it hard, then turn it off - where if you just turn it on and leave it on a modern system is going to be *immensely* more energy efficient and you will be *far* more comfortable

My BLM flag expresses my profound love for the Bureau of Land Management and you’re insane if you think otherwise!
Leonard Leo tells @propublica.bsky.social of his Appeal to Heaven flag: "Just because a bunch of insurrectionists flew a flag doesn't mean they get to own it." www.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

i ask because thomas has raised the question of whether the court’s voting rights jurisprudence is constitutional, as if the 15th amendment just doesn’t exist
how far away do you think we are from clarence thomas just openly arguing that the reconstruction amendments are unconstitutional?

This is a very LA specific request but: anyone in LA have a tailor they love? I need help because petite sizing is based upon vibes and not actual proportions.

“The school didn’t call an ambulance.” Some sentences enter the mind and will never leave. I read that in an article today and it will be with me for the rest of my days.
The story of Nex Benedict, the non-binary Native teen in Oklahoma who got murdered at school, is just so heartbreaking. The way the school reacted (they were going to suspend the teen): shocking. If your reactionary ideology turns you into an inhumane monster, re-evaluate the ideology.

So because of this, I discovered a book on Amazon, almost certainly AI-generated, called “Unbelievable Pictures and Facts about New Mexico,” and you will be shocked to hear that it indeed contains unbelievable facts about New Mexico, starting with this one.
New Mexico magazine has a monthly column of those stories. www.newmexicomagazine.org/culture/one-...

South Minneapolis has been constantly under aerial surveillance from police, feds, & military since George Floyd was killed in May 2020. This article is from 2021. They’re still here in 2024, keeping people awake 24/7 in residential neighborhoods for no reason other than intimidation and harassment
Heavy police surveillance raises anxiety for Twin Cities residentssahanjournal.com The law enforcement presence has grown dramatically in recent months. Many residents see it as a sign of disrespect and hostility

It is also just wild how cops are so universally understood to be hair trigger-ready to kill someone that this even exists as a concept

BIG NEWS: Florida certified enough valid signatures to place pro-choice constitutional amendment on ballot (protected abortion access through 24 weeks). Sen. Scott now seems less secure to me in his re-election runs. Amendment needs 60% to win, but Scott could easily lose if Dems bring majority.
Florida ready to follow Ohio and secure abortion rightswww.politico.com A measure has reached the threshold to qualify for this year's ballot.

Sometimes I think about when rightwingers decided to get James Gunn fired for some shitty bad taste jokes he tweeted years ago and then the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy was like no that’s stupid we won’t accept this bad faith campaign. My point is that Rocket Raccoon has more dignity than Harvard
What a ridiculous joke. What a stupid distraction.

The point plainly *was* to swap one form of discrimination for another though. Prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race or gender requires discriminating against people who think women and minorities are inferior!
