I spent the morning collecting all of the data on hormones and mental health for trans kids.
Here are the results of every single study and the UK review's utterly disingenuous takeaway.
I mean, the tables were already done, i just had to convert them from pdf and merge two of them. If I knew excel it probably would have taken like 25 minutes lol
Opening the PDF in Word (it does that, just takes some time) might make the formatting a lot more convenient for copying.
If you're serious about learning Excel stuff ask me any question, it's a hobby of mine.
happen to know any linux/unix tricks? (both come with lots of doc, pdf, and similar tools as well as a couple office suites now) or know anyone who would? goin back to college lol
The wildest thing is that there's only 5 studies that meaningfully looked into this. Everyone is fighting over which review to use but with that few studies you might as well just talk about the results directly.
My local library district gives classes on Excel for freeeeee, check and see if yours does the same! If not group classes, some places will let you make an appointment w/a staff person who can spend time teaching you
Given the political fervor, a kid transitioning is probably going to be exposed to increased bullying and other kinds of ostracization, and mental health outcomes are always hard to measure, so this is especially impressive.
Their conclusion certainly doesn't fit the evidence in the table. Every one of the studies showed an improvement in mental health following hormone treatments.
Yeah, a lot of the studies were downgraded for factors such as small sample size, and single clinic samples. Those are certainly limitations of the studies, but that’s a perfect opportunity to combine the results. Could they not have done a meta-analysis, rather than a narrative synthesis?
I’m “on vacation” so I may be telling you what you already know, but I believe this systematic review was specifically funded to inform the Cass Review: adc.bmj.com/content/earl... . It certainly words some things differently…
