And arguably what I am enjoying most is that this is not the hero theory of history. We’re not seeing a charismatic leader carry the election through rhetoric and force of personality. We’re seeing populations say: nope. I like the power of nope.

Underreported aspect of the UK GE here, there’s the same number of MPs elected on an explicitly pro-Palestinian platform as there are Reform MPs (lol at the choice of photo though)

lmao I called my local coffeeshop to see if they were open today--my fave barista happened to pick up & she was like yep we're here and also we have almond lemon loaves left [one of my go-to pastries] truly if you want the benefits of being loved you must submit to the embarrassment of being known

When you think about it, it's ridiculous that "annoy people until they give you their money and/or data" is the default business model for so much of the internet now.

We got tricked by science fiction into thinking a futuristic city is all about flying cars and crystal towers and hologram billboards but what it really looks like is nice apartment blocks, good mass transit, pedestrian zones with shade trees and safe bike lanes.

Absolute silence over this in the media, too. So inured to Israel’s war crimes now we don’t even bother mentioning them?

RIP Hind Rajab, who at 6 years of age was murdered by the Israeli army alongside her 15 year-old cousin Layan Hamadeh (murdered in front of her first). The IDF used 355 bullets on the children from '13 to 23 metres' away. Just 1 of 1000s of atrocities that have left Biden unmoved to abandon Israel.
Forensic Architecture probe concludes Israeli tank likely killed Palestinian child Hind Rajabwww.middleeasteye.net Investigation reveals Rajab's car was hit with 355 bullets and finds it 'not plausible' that Israeli tank couldn't see children inside car

I know this, because in the early 2000s I wrote a piece for a magazine on it. Now sadly lost to time. I got to speak to some of those old miners who were legit in tears about how being on that stage meant friends told them they were gay. And how it changed their worldview. I cried writing it, too.

Saw this floating around of late, took time to watch. Would bring a tear to a glass eye. Solidarity, brothers, sisters, siblings.
In 1994 the Pet Shop Boys were invited to perform 'Go West' at the Brit Awards. They agreed and brought with them 3 separate choirs of miners. Some of those miners had marched with the gay and lesbian members of LGSM in the 1980s. It is one of the great, near-lost music moments vimeo.com/293437684

I often see a woman in the park picking dandelions. I found out today she picks them for her 32 years old tortoise, Stanley, that her late husband bought her as a 17th wedding anniversary gift (the traditional gift for 17 years is shells) as she’d wanted a tortoise since she was a child.

UBI saves boatloads of public money. That should motivate certain types of people. But it’s also kind. Which fills those same people with a straight up berserker rage.
Individuals who received the $1,000/mo or $500/mo payments were more likely to find a stable, full-time job than before they received the basic income. Results showed 45% of participants secured housing, while $589,214 was saved in public service costs. "It's freedom. It's freedom from poverty..."
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants had housing.www.businessinsider.com Participants in Denver's basic income program received up to $1,000 a month. They became more housing secure and landed full-time jobs.

He used 3 petrol bombs. When the 1st glanced off a window, he used a hammer to break the glass & threw 2 more into the building. A security guard was inside & she had to flee the fire through an emergency exit. The motive was political. Not terrorism though. thejournal.ie/man-threw-petrol… #ireland

This proposal creates a genuinely two-tier system of citizenship. If there is a police reason to do so, police the citizen. But creating a class of citizens who can be stripped of that status means some’s citizenship is always a contingent state I am a citizen. That can’t be taken from any of us.
Who defines what "a credible threat to the state" is? What's the evidentiary burden that must be met to justify this sanction? Is there a right of appeal? Is the decision made by a court or a politician who may be swayed by electoral considerations of the "legitimate concerns" variety? #Ireland
