Believe it or not, some conservatives do still have ethics. Wannabe Gordon Gekko bloviated about his "truth" and then refused to testify. When the judge asked him point blank, would you like to testify, he did the opposite of what he promised. E. Jean Carroll will file a 3rd defamation lawsuit too.
Yeah and any replacement would be less likely to go full drooling blank followed by n-word on a debate stage or at a rally.
Still would be a monster, of course, but less likely to massively self sabotage.
I think there is a portion of Trump supporters who will only vote for Trump. And I think there is a portion of GOP voters who just want the party to finish imploding so they can get back to actually governing.
I think that Trump beat down his GOP opponents with his various invectives that it would be difficult for anyone to run. For 5 years the head of the party said Lil Marco, Cruz and his ugly wife, and Tiny D were worthless. And suddenly the party says they can succeed Trump?
The 30ish percent of the country with locked in right wing authoritarian preferences will always be dangerous but of course less so when demoralized and disorganized.
We are sadly always one ill timed gas price spike or terrorist attack away from “centrists” siding with them for an election tho
