Absolutely but ideally they don’t have time to deal with it in time for the election. Trump does tomorrow, they fight for a month or three, and gas goes up 3 bucks a gallon (for instance) and we get president Haley or some other ghoul.

And it may actually improve the chances of a Republican president, because they could squeeze his martyrdom for all it's worth.

I think that Trump beat down his GOP opponents with his various invectives that it would be difficult for anyone to run. For 5 years the head of the party said Lil Marco, Cruz and his ugly wife, and Tiny D were worthless. And suddenly the party says they can succeed Trump?

That's when they come to the realization they let him destroy the entire party. Gonna be amazing.

The 30ish percent of the country with locked in right wing authoritarian preferences will always be dangerous but of course less so when demoralized and disorganized. We are sadly always one ill timed gas price spike or terrorist attack away from “centrists” siding with them for an election tho
