Liberal democracy, like all systems of government, is propped up by an implicit threat of violence

I only think it's important to avoid fascism if it means a slightly older guy than the fascist isn't in charge

I dunno, I think if Thomas fucking Friedman tells you to do something, then that's a pretty clear hint that the opposite course of action is the one to take.

Dems should get better with ratfucking. Perfect opportunity here. Start a Super PAC named something like "Great America Initiative" and run ads about how much Trump supports Project 2025, specifically naming its most unpopular provisions.
even trump’s campaign staff (i assume he didn’t write this) knows that the reactionary, authoritarian agenda that’s project 2025 is going to be unpopular with the average voter.

co-sign but i will add: i don't know the best path but i do know the worst path, and that's replacing him with anyone other than kamala, via any process whatsoever.
I have no idea the best path re Biden but I do know a solid week straight of “Biden Old” and “Rich Dems Worried” above-the-fold stories are *obscene* in the face of SCOTUS using the Constitution to wipe their asses purely in the service of reinstating a felon rapist as president. Crazy-making shit.

Highly reliable sources within the Trump campaign tell me this is the scenario they're most afraid of
Wild to watch horserace journalists suggest the most politically suicidal shit and pretend it's savvy. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Woah, crazy
Then there’s the other class of people, real Democrats, who are just scared. I talk to dozens of these people every day on the doors in my district. They don’t know what the best path is, they’re desperate to win, and it’s not making them reckless, it’s making them CAUTIOUS.

It’s maddening to see skepticism of ejecting Biden treated like cultish loyalty. Some of us have been out here saying Biden’s too old for years. The problem is that what is being proposed is a shocking, almost unheard-of remedy, and every historic precedent tells us it’ll end in catastrophe.

Listen to the Biden interview. Its 15ish minutes of Biden talking extemporaneously perfectly well. But like several other public events over the last several days, this is getting brushed aside because the narrative that political news media wants to go with is set. civicmedia.us/shows/specia...
EXCLUSIVE: Interview w/ President Joe Biden (Hour 1)civicmedia.us <p>Earl debuts his exclusive interview with President Joe Biden on a special Independence Day broadcast. He asks the President about the importance of the black community, the economic accomplishments...

Joe Biden has been an excellent president, and I highly doubt he lost his marbles in the last few months

I would happily replace every liberal commentator with Aaron Rupar. Sometimes you just need to hit the fucking talking points
Reminder for people who seem to be convinced that a deficit barely outside the margin of error in July is insurmountable

It really is making *me* feel crazy to see a bunch of other Democrat voters running around screaming about how Biden is now unelectable, on the basis of one bad debate and an incredibly obvious ratfucking campaign by America’s most craven newspaper.
Avatar
What I see are a lot of people who will ultimately vote for Biden despairing that a bunch of people they don't know won't vote for Biden because he's old and had a bad debate, with none of that pessimism born out in the data
Avatar
Trump is a fascist pedo freak and that's all that matters
Avatar
Especially given that the guy does, in fact, vote
i really am going to be logged off for the holiday but i would like to drop off a parting thought: publishing a monarchist anti-voting take on the fourth of july is the strongest possible indication of someone's core, true values

Nate Silver might be the ur example of poster's madness. He was generally fine for years, and then he lost his mind because too many people were calling him Nate Bronze
lol “an alliance of Nate Silver centrists and leftists” - I can barely imagine a less competent and trustworthy political grouping than this

There are a lot of things people are taking as given in this Biden discourse which aren't obviously true. One I haven't seen discussed much is the idea that the NYT can even swing an election anymore

putting aside the whole debate about the ticket, my grandmother had dementia. he doesn’t have dementia
I don’t work with specifically geriatric populations and I don’t specifically have dementia expertise, though I work with a bunch of older people I don’t see evidence for dementia. I just don’t.
Avatar
listen I'm just a serious reporter doing seventy five consecutive stories expressing sudden and breathless concern about how only one of two old candidates for president are old

Some great people work in other parts of the paper, and in the editorial section I like some columnists (tho they're not on the editorial board, so maybe moot), but the NYT politics desk has fervently and with complete consistency worked to elect Republicans the 30+ years I've been paying attention.

The New York Times ratfucking operation in favor of Trump is so incredibly blatant that it’s beyond parody. If you saw ratfucking like this coming from a newspaper in a movie, you’d probably think it was a bit over the top.

I'm sure Walsh would be perfectly satisfied if the convention delegates picked Mike Bloomberg. He would back the candidate whoever it is
“leftists who have hated Biden for years and opportunistic pundits who have hated Biden for years quickly agreed that the key to beating Trump is to relentlessly attack the duly nominated Democrat until he’s totally unelectable.” with all due respect do people not realize this is extremely bad

If you think Biden should resign, good news: Mike Johnson agrees!

The first half of this is a good read. The latter half about him not going out enough: he's had a public event almost every day since the debate

Based on the number of people who have seamlessly switched into “really it’s the way the campaign that’s responding I’m worried about” this is almost entirely a media-driven thing On Here
