As an Appalachian *and* an Ohio State grad, I’m about to become very, very annoying

I was approached by a canvasser yesterday for a cause near to my heart. I also had my hands visibly full with a bottle of water and a bowl of food. Good hustle, kid, but at least approach someone with a hand free to sign your survey.

I applied to work there back in 2016. The whole team is cool as hell, and the farthest from Tr*mpy as you can be. I didn't get the job, but I'll say good things about them all day every day.

To be clear: no one's fear or pain is more important than someone else's. But if you take a beat and ask, "What fear is causing this? Why does that fear exist?" you might understand why some things happen the way they do. It doesn't have to be rational or exculpatory, but at least be aware of it.

If there's one thing I've learned in the last few years, it's that a lot of bad behavior/choices/ideologies are caused by fear. I wonder how far we'd get if we started factoring that variable into the calculus we use to understand the world.
