Former President Donald Trump narrowly avoided death after being shot in the ear during a campaign rally, with one spectator killed and two critically injured. What do you think? www.theonion.com/nation-rocke...

I cannot emphasize enough that straight reporting in the NYT should be verified elsewhere if you want to be sure about it. The standards are appalling.
I’m going to start with the absolutely jaw-dropping news that The New York Times deceptively edited a quote to make it appear that JD Vance opposes a national abortion ban. — @jessicavalenti.bsky.social

Can't wait to go to prison for teaching about gender, including transgender, identity in a class on *checks notes* the philosophy of race and gender Just deeply unserious people, P2025 should be campaign ending
According to Project 2025, which is the heart of Trump's campaign and platform, if you teach or talk about the existence of LGBTQ people then you are a sex offender and should be imprisoned.

Unnecessary shortages of ADHD meds (and related price gouging tactics from manufacturers and insurance companies) are putting a huge strain on families--including my own. A few thoughts... 1/ www.spotlightpa.org/news/2024/07...

just watched a presser with Milwaukee cops explaining that Wisconsin is an open carry state so they can't do anything about it if somebody's walking around the soft perimeter with an AR

I still share this every time twenty years later. How did he do this? Where did the guitar go at the end?!
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from the 2004 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction for George Harrison. Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Steve Winwood with Prince stealing the show at the end. What a guitar solo! George's son, Dhani plays guitar and he looks blown away with happiness. youtu.be/dWRCooFKk3c?...

Before it was Jamelle, it was Tressie, before it was Tressie, it was all those black folks y’all chased away before this app was even fully open to the public. I can’t PAY a lot of my friends to try BlueSky because of what they’ve heard about y’all. It’s not a person; it’s a proven pattern.

when you come at the king ... you say it's up to him, mill around aimlessly like lost sheep saying someone should do something, freeze some but not all of his money, and most of all, give disgruntled anonymous statements to reporters

when's the (stupidly-named) "big boy press conference", again?

I don't travel often for conferences, so thought I'd mention that I'll be at the PPE Society meeting in New Orleans in November. Lemme know if you'll be there too.

Imagine looking at one million acres of land and pristine fresh water, with no motor vehicles, no development, one of only 13 dark sky sanctuaries in the world and saying…this should be a mine.
Very unfun fact: Project 2025 specifically names Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area and wants to remove its protected status and open it up to mining. This is the future Donald John Trump wants.

I think the NYT might have jumped the Objective Journalism shark this time. I haven't seen them out for blood this much since 2002-3, and Biden isn't a foreign dictator
Just to be clear, the current NYT home page is 4 stories about Biden's age, plus another editorial board urging him to withdraw, plus about how Trump is moderating the GOP on abortion.

Piece by me today in The New European on the political philosophy that Keir Starmer should adopt. (Behind paywall but you can read it for free if you register. In itself not a bad metaphor for the piece - the market society must be made to work for all.) www.theneweuropean.co.uk/what-is-the-...
