I’m just trying to imagine a restaurant that I would be willing to eat at 250 nights a year.
Avatar
I am confident I could eat tacos from my favorite place 250 nights a year.
Avatar
Like I wouldn't do it because I like variety, but in a hypothetical. If there was some incentive, I could easily do it and be very happy.
Avatar
It’s the whole restaurant menu, yeah? So you can switch it up with quesadillas, nachos, burritos, enchiladas, arroz con frijoles, taco salad, etc. And that’s not even counting desserts! I could easily do twice the time at my favorite Tex-Mex place. Or my other favorite one.

This place also does great tortas!

yeh, neighborhood tacqueria, I could do that. wife would probably divorce me & I prefer her to the challenge so it's all academic, but...yeah.
Avatar
I would devour Mexican or Indian 250 nights a year if they had decently large menus. And for way less than $100/meal
Avatar
not even a challenge. I'll start tomorrow. Someone just get the Turks to send over a couple gold bars.
Avatar
OH YEAH WELL MY KIDS DO THAT AND MORE AND THEY DONT EVEN TIP
Avatar
I’m imagining there’s context here I’m not aware of because my autistic ass will eat the exact same thing for months on end and be in heaven

As part of Senator Bob Menendez's hearings (or perhaps it was just an article) it came out that he ate at Morton's Steakhouse 250 nights on year "on average" . Which is so much steak I don't understand how he's still alive.
Avatar
Oof yeah there’s the context!
Avatar
It’s really rather impressive. Especially with his much younger, obvious honey pot wife.
Avatar
He's an interesting character for certain
Avatar
if you go there all the time you could order lamb, pork, seafood a fair amount instead of steak every night, unless he was a 'know your poison' kind of diner
Avatar
I was just thinking this is neurodivergent coded.

Avatar
Yeah, I mean, I concede that point.

I couldn't afford it, wouldn't want to do it if I could, and couldn't get the reservations, but maaaaaybe Chez Panisse for me? Emphasis on the "willing." It'd at least be a little more like eating dinner at someone's house.
Avatar
Caveats accepted, but great choice. Chez Panisse was the first fine dining restaurant that both of my daughters went to. (Of course, they were both infants at the time, so…)

I've only been when a client has given my husband a gift certificate as a present, which has happened twice, but both times were really lovely.
Avatar
Material differences between the Cafe upstairs and the dining room downstairs 😎
Avatar
Was just coming here to say exactly that - my husband and I had an amazing meal in the upstairs cafe and did not break the bank
Avatar
Exactly. Been to the Cafe many times. Only been downstairs twice, and at least one of those times my cousin was the current Chef de Cuisine 😎
Avatar
It's impossible for a foodie, John, to do it.
Avatar
I’m trying to think about what the maximum number of times I’ve eaten at a given restaurant (over, say, the last decade). I’m honestly not sure that you can get into double digits. Maybe the burrito joint by school… Maybe.
Avatar
Yes, max is double digits, and that's over several years.
Avatar
And, like, what does it cost to eat at Mortons? Can you get out of there for less than $100/pp? $150/pp? Like, if we had $50k/year that we were forced to spend on restaurant dinners, I just can’t imagine spending all of that money at a single restaurant…
Avatar
I’d be at good sushi joints. 😄
Avatar
I was trying to figure out how many nights of high-quality sushi I could handle per year. Not sure it's 250. Might be.
Avatar
They accept gold bars as a form of payment
Avatar
Avatar
A Caesar salad and a strip steak, with no sides, dessert, or drinks would run you 79 bucks before tax and tip.
Avatar
It’s at least .5 gold bars/yr
Avatar
I could do double digits of Chick-fil-a (say, twice/month), but that hardly counts as a restaurant.

I bounced between Umberto's of New Hyde Park and Gino's a couple blocks down on Jericho Tpke for a few years. Probably ate at one of them 3-4x a week. Got different stuff. Sometimes I'd go to Angoletto's to mix it up.
Avatar
Umberto's was good stuff. La Scala was, for my money, the best slice on Long Island.
Avatar
did you ever go to iavarone brothers in lake success
Avatar
Oh yeah lots of times. Love that place too. Damn, making me miss Nassau County again!
Avatar
oh my god no way we were there last october for my nieces baptism! my youngest is obsessed with their chopped salad
Avatar
I worked with a guy who got dinner at the restaurant on the first floor of our office building every night for 3 years. Pork and ginger (Thai place). I asked him why, and he said it was cheap, tasty, and he never got sick. Some people need routines.

Avatar
I know a little taqueria I could eat at pretty much every day.

I could see doing it for breakfast, if I were made of money
