Everything about this process has been awful and expensive but hey: ten days later, I’ve managed to pay for and get access to my new much worse health insurance purchased via the NY marketplace. Tying access to healthcare to employment is an absolute nightmare.

I for one am glad the Cybertruck exists bc what other vehicle is out there providing nonstop hits like this

Josie were you somehow time travel eavesdropping on my shabbas lunch conversation? Because this hits so hard and I just had to send the link to one of the friends I hosted yesterday.

Listening to @overduepod.bsky.social and suddenly wanting to yell in the grocery store because SOME OF US ARE NATIONALS FANS, @mcgetting.bsky.social. Some of us are Jews from DC who now live in NYC and root for the Nats! I know … one besides me. And he’s my cousin.

I ran into a friend on my way home from happy hour and she asked about my debate watching plans. I laughed. I was never going to watch the debate and I am especially not going to after three rounds of $6 happy hour sangria.

Compare the splashy $100 million spend to the $20 million abortion funds spent from July 2021 to June 2022 to make sure real people get the abortions they seek, and they usually don't cover the full cost that a caller faces nor help every caller in need.
In which I ask, among other things, why spend $100M on a “bold public awareness campaign” to increase abortion access when abortion funds are barely scraping by?
$100 Million for Abortion Rights—With a Lot of Questionsnewrepublic.com Abortion Access Now launched this week to much fanfare. But it's not clear how their proposals differ from what's already out there.

Yes to all of this. Related, as I wrote earlier this week, we should be considering ways to provide foundational financial stability to the vast network doing the intense work to get thousands of women to abortions. www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

More Women Are Traveling for Abortion. Fund It.www.bloomberg.com Two years post-Dobbs, too many nonprofits still rely on volunteers and bake sales to underpin their efforts. Lawmakers and philanthropists need to step up.

This is a particularly terrifying struggle - all the local funds lean on NAF for help with expensive procedures. I’m anticipating my next NYAAF shift being dramatically more difficult.

For this campaign to launch at the same time that NAF announces that they need to cut their pledges from 50% of procedure cost to 30% in most cases (www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...) is infuriating. Abortion funds could do so much with just a smidge of this “awareness campaign” budget.
Why a Big Abortion Hotline Is Cutting Patient Supportwww.bloomberg.com Hi there, its Kelsey here to talk about why abortion patients are getting less financial support. But first ...

Another option that I’m obsessed with and will eat plenty of once the CSA tomatoes start to show up: halloumi. Great salty-umami punch and more protein than a mushroom. HLT is a great summer sandwich.

100% agreed - my shul has certainly demonstrated that lately.

I’m actually fairly certain that protests outside synagogues will only extend the fight for those goals! Those Jews on the left who are hard at work pushing other Jews in our lives to consider the horrors committed by the Israeli government lose ground because of protests at synagogues.

I think that Amtrak might be overcompensating for the weather outside by attempting to freeze me on this train.

Gotta focus on this right now, when I’m unemployed and searching for what’s next.
If there were one piece of advice which I would give to a young person that I think is applicable to every career (and other parts of life) it would be: You have to say what you want, out loud. No one can see inside your head. If you want to do a job or get into an area, you need to say so.

But I don’t think the ad is aimed at American buyers in general - it’s aimed at American Jews who would be likely to know what “Anglo neighborhood” refers to already. Much narrower target.

I spent summers without AC in the 2000s. I was also at a camp in the Poconos, got in a pool or lake twice a day most days, and had few 90+ days all summer. I don’t get why people don’t see the difference between that and my 2024 NYC apartment. And my old camp might need more AC’ed space nowadays!
No, I am not making up our cultural tendency towards air conditioning shaming. Here’s a perfect example of the type of smug Northeastern/Atlantic argument I’ve been seeing for a very long time, published in the Washington Post:
I don’t need air conditioning, and neither do youwww.washingtonpost.com Turn off the AC and reap the benefits. Yes, even in this heat.

it's hard to explain how racist jamaal bowman's primary challenger is and how little coverage that fact has received despite the fact that he's spent more than any primary candidate IN HISTORY

Thank goodness for a best friend who hears me complain about how I feel like I’m not doing enough and reminds me that unemployment sucks and I am doing so so much already.

The number of people in my shul groupchat who think one video of an anti-genocide activist yelling on the subway is a good enough reason to support Hochul's push for a mask ban is WILD.
Avatar
I compared it to sexual harassment, dudes with their dicks out etc on the subway - a thing I just expect will happen sometimes because the NYPD doesn't do shit about it - and they couldn't explain why the NYPD would do a better job at protecting them from this sort of yelling.

I'm finding that the liberal Zionist types at my shul aren't necessarily saying that what's happening is "justified and good" without complication - and if it weren't for their openness to complication and nuance I would struggle much more to pray beside them.

Love when the internet is back at complaining about that one woman I had classes with in college who has terrible opinions and gets paid to write about them.

[the tune of Eleanor Rigby] 🎵Governor Hochul Chose to pull out and piss off everyone in her state What a mistake Why did she do that Making a shortfall for MTA changes and more Who was that for?🎵

It's worth paying attention to what Liz Kruger, the chair of the NYS Senate Finance Committee, has been saying. She's offered perhaps the most thorough evisceration of Hochul's decision of any elected official. Full text, 'cause it doesn't all fit in the alt: www.nysenate.gov/newsroom/pre...
I have never seen politicians in Albany look this pissed off at a press conference. Including every face in the background. The proposed payroll tax is what the governor wants to substitute for revenue from congestion pricing. I'm calling it: Hochul will back down. link: x.com/bern_hogan/s...

100% - my point was more that even for something where you need the escort it’s a real hardship to find someone. And I have a strong support network of friends who I could ask!

I had a very not a big deal surgery about eighteen months ago and they required me to have someone pick me up - and I probably needed it, but I had to ask a LOT of friends before I could find someone able to meet me at the surgical center and take a cab home with me!

I think that 50% of why I keep going to a dentist that isn’t near home or the office is so that I have an excuse to work from cute coffee shops in the Village after my appointments.
