I guess they’re the evolutionary equivalent to the PL-12-300 Airtruk.

I could be wrong, but I think AI developers are substantially overestimating their tech. It’s as likely as not they’re engaging in a high level/stakes form of apophenia; perceiving meaningful connections where there are none.
