Maybe not the main point, but important to note that Musk's preoccupation with procreating as much as possible is directly linked to the Great Replacement and the other white supremacist doctrines in which he believes (and, here, to colonial frameworks of conquering).
"Elon Musk’s Plan to Put a Million Earthlings on Mars in 20 Years... Mr. Musk has volunteered his sperm." Parts of the New York Times are great. Some journalists are great. But this is not ...a serious newspaper.

Guy literally had secrets in his bathroom, selling them to foreign nationals. Calls people to steal votes. Sends a mob to keep himself in office. This country pissing all over its history to bend over backwards for this guy? This is the guy we bring down the whole experiment for?

It's going to be a while until we have a good picture of the motivations of the Pennsylvania shooter, but I want to try to flesh out an idea that's been going around -- namely, that the shooting is the product of Trumpist politics. /1

I think billboards highlighting each chapter of Project 2025 placed in specific locations. For example the chapter on gutting military benefits should have billboards on highways near big military bases. Plans for destroying Social Security have billboards all over in Arizona and Florida.

Beginning to wonder if Serious Moderate journalists are the ones who actually want the far right in power but they’re afraid to admit it so they project the enthusiasm for the far right onto a populist juggernaut that doesn’t actually exist! Many such cases!
The perception of an inevitable fascist victory in Europe is largely just the wishcasting of mainstream media publications saying that fascist victory is inevitable. See how the BBC spins National Rally's loss.

Johnny McEntee, one of Trump's most loyal deputies who is in regular contact with him, is literally one of the people collecting resumes for staffers who would implement Project 2025. Shame on any journalistic outfit who takes this "truth" at face value.
Today in "Trump didn't write this, someone on his campaign staff did." I don't know if Kellyanne Conway is working for Trump these days but this feels more like her style, voice, and syntax than Trump or those posting on his behalf recently.

I’ve had this discussion many times with students who are active military: They were, across the board, horrified and disgusted by Trump’s desire to use troops against protesters - but also, and rightfully, quick to add that democracy is in great peril if it has to rely on soldiers defying orders.
Things are going very well when we've reached the "Don't worry, the military won't obey orders to kill civilians" stage of democratic backsliding. It's the sweet spot, where good things happen. Right where we want to be.

Living under authoritarian regimes is both relatively boring and normal AND incredibly corrosive to the human soul. These things can absolutely co-exist. This is why everyone needs to resist authoritarians, even people who privately assume they’ll be just fine.
The damage this causes across generations (even if the regime is short lived!) is so hard to grasp if you haven’t lived with it. It touches every aspect of life. It makes trust impossible, and without some level of trust and a belief in the possibility of justice, *nothing in society works.*

I really have lost my former tolerance for "we're doomed/fucked/it's all over/they've won" takes at this point, in that they're the most dangerous attitudes one could possibly have when confronted with a truly existential political threat (which we still DO have levers to address).

You heard it from NPR - this election is now a referendum on if Donald Trump can do crimes or not. Time to hammer that home to the American people!
BREAKING NEWS: The decision likely ensures that the case against Trump won’t be tried before the election, and then only if he is not reelected.

in practice, presidents have been enjoying a lot of immunity. This codifies it in a way that's quite alarming in the abstract, but even more alarming in the case considered. The decision references Trump's discussions with Pence about trying to interfere with the EC vote counting as "official"
