sorry but this is just wrong. yes, there’s a bad faith media feeding frenzy. but *fifty million* people watched Biden sputter his way through that debate. it is not a creation of the media, it is a real problem.
I don’t like to embrace doomerism but I’m pretty sure the moment we took on this narrative as a true “concern” Biden needed to disprove, especially party leadership, we were fucked.

History will recall that the New York Times, that bastion of "the liberal media," on July 4, 2024 chose to give prime space on their op-ed page to a theocratic absolutist who argued that people shouldn't vote, even though he himself has voted in the last 2 elections (but nowhere is that mentioned).
When I first saw this I thought "no, that can't possibly be true." But alas, the Times did indeed choose today of all days to publish a right winger's recycled piece about how they don't vote, failing to mention that the author basically thinks absolutist theocracies are cool.

ICYMI: "Insurance costs are becoming such a large part of the budgets of affordable housing developers and managers that it’s forcing them to reconsider building new projects." - Moira Birss
Today, Moira Birss continues our series on the LPE of Insurance, arguing that policy responses to the current home insurance crisis should focus on protecting households, not insurance companies. lpeproject.org/blog/the-ins...
The Insurance Industry Is Not the Victimlpeproject.org The rapidly worsening home insurance crisis is often understood as primarily a problem for insurers. Yet the overarching policy question should not be, “how do we save the home insurance industry from...

I was confused about this too. I remembered hearing about the Ohio controversy before the fix happened. Didn't know it had happened, and later read a bunch of stories that falsely said it didn't happen. Why were these stories written like this? prospect.org/blogs-and-ne...

Breaking news: President Biden and his senior team said they accepted the grim ultimatum they’ve been hearing from almost all quarters of the Democratic Party — to demonstrate his fitness for office or face a significant effort to force him to step aside.
Biden and aides concede he needs to quickly demonstrate his fitness for officewww.washingtonpost.com Critics have been shaken by his relative inaction to directly address the panic ignited by his halting debate performance last Thursday.

The best and funniest part of Biden being replaced by a younger candidate is that they could constantly point at Trump and say, "Look, this guy's too old to be president."

I also have been asking people this for decades when they say they just have to get out of New Orleans. Where are you gonna go? Every place has the exact same problems.
The whole “I’m going to leave America if _____ happens” is stupid not just because most people can’t do that but also because what, you’re going to jet into France just in time to enjoy a fascist taking over? Going to head to Italy? Canada for Québécois Trump? Argentina for that floppy haired guy?

I really feel like the Muppets' 30 Rock like sitcom didn't get enough time to breath, or perhaps they expected it to pull in solid prime time numbers.

The Roberts Court (led by Roberts) gutted the Voting Rights Act. The Voting Rights Act! I've spent a decade flabbergasted that we aren't all yelling about this *every day.* It's the damn Voting Rights Act!
Between today, Chevron, the reversal of Roe, and Citizens United, I feel like it would be pretty tough to name a more destructive Supreme Court than John Roberts'
