einstein sent this to curie in 1911 when she was being harassed by tabloids. it contains everything you’d want in such a letter: (1) your haters are trash (2) you’re a baller, a true queen (3) i have determined the statistical law of motion of the diatomic molecule in planck’s radiation field 🧪⚛️

In the Spring of 1864 Twain, while working as a beat reporter for the SF Morning Call, Twain witnessed the murder of a Chinese laborer by a mob that included cops. It radicalized him. He wrote it up, one of the first things he ever authored which he thought deserved to be called “literature”… 2/

1/7 Fun fact: Stockholm Syndrome is an unscientific and sexist concept. It was made up by a police psychologist to gin up a bullshit explanation for a particular incident that embarrassed the Stockholm police.

“This is a prominent provision, it’s not obscure” says Alito about a zombie statute that he and his anti-abortion buddies refuse to call by its name and tell the NYT that they’re trying to keep secret until they can try to use it to ban abortion nationwide.

My first reaction to someone like Marc Rowan trashing the institution that he's supposed to be helping to govern is to hit back, to snark, to mock. But there's something deeper in me that just says: this is a betrayal of the responsibility you take on when you agree to be a trustee.

Still one of my favorite moments in music. It makes me feel so incredibly grateful and so very sad.
i can't believe it's been twenty years since Prince played this legendary solo - complete with a trust fall onto a security guard mid-shred, capped off with a disappearing guitar magic trick at the end of the song www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWRC...

Exactly this. 🧵
Right. Any assessment of this new rhetorical escalation that sees the operative force here as simple Puritanism—and not male supremacy—is missing the point.

A few days ago I met a pal, an OB-GYN who is working at a service that sends abortion pills (mifepristone and misoprostol) to women who need them in states that ban abortion. She asked me to help spread the word about how to use the service, and asked me to ask you guys to pass on the info. 1/6

This is such good news.
I've noticed a similar shift in NYC. When I used to attend the Antiquarian Book Fair here 20 years ago, I was usually one of the very very few people under 35 and even fewer Black people, let alone Black women. It's still very very old, male & white but slowly changing sfstandard.com/2024/02/13/s...

This was an extremely informative and very moving conversation. Every American should take note of the stakes involved in this case. And they should do so before it’s too late.
It was my privilege to have this extraordinary discussion with the brilliant @dahlialithwick.bsky.social about why @crew.bsky.social's case to remove Donald Trump from the ballot is not only right under the constitution, but so important for the survival of American democracy.
