For one, he has spent his entire career misleading people into thinking he grew up in Appalachia and conflating Middletown, where he grew up, by saying it's in "southern Ohio" and that he spent a lot of time with his family in "nearby" Jackson, Kentucky. Jackson is four hours away from Middletown

Nothing supports your argument about how dangerously radical your opponents are better than activating a never-before-used provision in the Constitution to remove a sitting President against his will. Brilliant strategy.

That said, I just moved to Old Town and the Mariano's at 1500 Clybourn is so sick! No one shops there, checkers and baggers waiting. Why not? It's just a Frat Party Outlet - 2 floors of mostly beer, frozen pizza, and lunchables. Worse than a 7-11. A grown adult cannot do all their shopping there.

Not formally, but the changes are so obvious. 13th and Canal. It used to be so terrific, now it's just ... Mariano's. And every time I'm there there are huddles of white male managers chewing the fat, loudly, and now only one or two checkers, where there used to be 6. Empty shelves of entire brands

Jewels were better until this Marianos merger started. My fave Jewel became a Marianos - switched selections from Jewel brands to Kroger brands, got rid of check out people and baggers - without changing the sign. Mariano's produce seems to have spent a year in a warehouse.

Right. And the media is doing terrible reporting on this, too -- repeating the new owners' claim that they will honor all union agreements, etc. Yes, until they lay off everyone who works in these stores now and replaces them with even lowered paid workers. That said, Marianos/Kroger sucks so bad...

When I read your column I remembered a Christian GOP friend in Tennessee who told me 3 years ago, Just move to another state if you don't like it here. She was defending the 'need' for laws to make sure her granddaughter in rural TN didn't run into a ('sexualized') drag queen on her way to school.
