my normie facebook friends are now expressing wishes for biden to drop out and i'm just amazed at months and months of "don't criticize biden or the bad orange man wins" has now become "biden's brain doesn't work, that guy needs to go tomorrow" all from the same people
year ago, even! many people had valid critiques that were only shouted down but now we all have to drop everything bc liberals are freaking out? gaaahhhhh
It's extra crazy making bc at this point the way American elections go out feels like a disaster to replace your candidate. All you're doing is making the embarrassment worse! The bed is made at this point!
yeah I'm very confused by what they're trying to do. I thought it was already too late to replacement MONTHS ago but now???it's so close.
anything can happen but YIKES
Julian Castro gently suggested on a debate stage that he was too old for the job and got crucified for it, now they're gleefully calling him an old fart on msnbc
Me: "it's bad, actually, to let a disabling virus keep hitting our population in waves, this will impact everyone in ways you can't possibly imagine"
COVID denialists: "it's fine, people should just get over it"

The grossest part of all this is that it's apparently ok to rail against marginalized people, Muslim Americans, etc. for saying they can't vote for a person materially harming/killing them/people they love, but some bullshit medicalized ageist/ableist argument for why not deserves to be respected.
Like, a moral argument against supporting genocide and apartheid deserves scorn and ridicule, but diagnosing the President as a dementia sufferer because he didn't perform as you wanted in a debate should be embraced as urgent wisdom all of society should heed?
Well when people gaslight you for months before abruptly pivoting to take credit for believing the thing you said that inspired them to gaslight you in the first place, that’s literally the endgame, whether it’s subconscious on their part or not.
It really does. But I’ve been getting gaslit about stuff by large groups, including healthcare workers, since 2004, so all I can do at this point is resign myself to never fully trusting most people and do my adrenaline and cortisol reduction exercises so I don’t die of stress-induced illness.
Yes I didn't even say I wasn't going to vote for the mam and everyone was like YOUVE DOOMED DEMOCRACY and now this. Sigh will my touching grass era ever come?
I expected the debate performance to be fodder for Trump ads, but this unilateral call by everyone to drop out within minutes is so strange to me. All the things that are now unacceptable were already happening. To have it be a little more concentrated during a debate and go hard 180
Is just bizarre. It seems like a genuine emotional freak out, it doesn’t track if you’ve been paying attention (and many of the people suddenly freaking out have been paying attention)
I mean we had our various criticisms last year, then he lied about the photos of dead babies and helped jump start a genocide into 5th gear; and through it all (even just asking for a primary) we were attacked.
Like all of this could have been avoided with the barest lip service of a primary.
Seeing the exact same people who demanded folks not criticize Biden for a genocide now calling for him to drop out of the race because of a bad debate performance is... something.
There's no candidate that can replace Biden with a better shot at beating Trump.
The only ones panicking are the political analysts. Regular people were never voting for him for his energy and youth, they were cutting for him because he's not a child, and knows his sh*t. That hasn't changed.
There isn't a candidate now but maybe there could have been way back when reasonable people were saying he's not up to it and got shouted down. Lots of room between "energy and youth" and what we saw in the debate. Not sure regular people can be confident he knows his shit after that.
"way back": been 4 yrs - when exactly?
"maybe there could've been": people looked - there wasn't; dems tend to lose when they don't back their own incumbent
debate didn't change anything for reg voters - Trump still lies on everything, wont concede when he loses, Biden's answers were more accurate
