I know VP picks don't usually drive or depress voter turnout, but Vance is so far right (or pretends to be) that I wonder whether he might be one who causes millions of people to #vote🌊. Fingers crossed!

Let's all #vote🌊 and thereby keep him from taking up residence at the Naval Observatory at all costs, shall we?

4/4 DOJ possible next steps include: A. Appeal to 11th Circuit & SCOTUS (process would take into '25); B. Give up; or C. Re-indict using the DOJ Public Integrity Unit and US Attorney for SD Florida to run the case. The only thing I know *for certain* about the future is it hasn't happened yet.

Short thread.
Institutions work until they don’t. It’s banal but true. Courts as institutions worked when Trump tried to steal the election, but FedSoc has been chipping away at them for decades, and I think it is very rational to doubt they will work any more to restrain an executive.

Senate Dems should take one of their assorted gun control bills off the shelf, rename it something like "Trump Assassination Prevention Act," and force Rs to do a talking filibuster to block it

periodic reminder: trump tried to stage an armed coup to keep himself in power close to four years ago
Just a reminder: it’s good to oppose assassinations. But you are under absolutely no obligation to treat Trumpists and Trump-apologists as people who are honest, or acting in good faith, when they purport to condemn political violence or violent rhetoric. They’re not sincere.

I do think POTUS, who typically reacted with all the class his opponent didn't deserve, is going too far in pulling down his campaign ads, not only because 45* won't do so but because he definitely wouldn't have done so if Biden had been the one who had been shot.

I wonder whether the folks who are demanding Biden’s replacement have considered the possibility that that would cause a substantial number of voters NOT to vote for the D who replaces him and therefore would result in a loss in November. Like, a different nominee would be magic?

Trump is considering cutting back sharing US intel with NATO partners if elected, officials have warned. European members rely on it for Ukraine and re: China and N Korea particularly. Europe may respond in kind. Another sign a Trump victory will make the world a more dangerous place.

CNN reporter Eva McKend spent the day at the Alpha Kappa Alpha convention in Dallas, where VP Kamala Harris spoke, and was hard-pressed to find a single Black voter, even among Harris mega-fans, who thought it was a good idea to push President Biden off the ticket. 🧵: x.com/evamckend/st...

That’s not what she said. It’s on video. We can hear it for ourselves. “Suggested” is doing a lot of work in that headline.
Breaking News: Nancy Pelosi suggested that President Biden should reconsider his decision to stay in the race, the strongest public push yet from a senior member of his party for him to weigh dropping out.

Sorry, @stevevladeck.bsky.social; just relistened. At 37:44, you referred to the court's extremist orientation, not the immunity ruling, and said that the sooner folks accept that notion, "the sooner we can talk about what we do about it." Would still love to know what we can do about the ruling.
@stevevladeck.bsky.social, I really enjoy reading and listening to your work. At the end of this week's "Talking Feds," you mentioned "what we can do about" SCOTUS's immunity ruling, but the episode ended shortly after that. What, if anything, CAN we do about it?

The longer the press keeps the "Biden must go" stories alive despite his flat-out saying today in a couple of forums that he is staying in, the more I fear it will detract from his beating the Orange Menace, which would be calamitous.

I wonder how close we are to weather like today’s and yesterday’s being commonplace in, say, January in the Northeast.
BREAKING: The global temperature in June was record warm for the 13th straight month and it marked the 12th straight month that the world was 1.5 degrees Celsius warmer than pre-industrial time, according to Copernicus.
June sizzles to 13th straight monthly heat record. String may end soon, but dangerous heat won'tapnews.com The European climate service Copernicus says Earth's more than year-long streak of record-shattering hot months kept on simmering through June.

This entire age thing in the press is about policing Biden's electability since even the most searing accounts say he's qualified to be president but not Olivia Nuzzi's bestie. And the thing is he's as electable as ever and more electable than any of the replacement options, at least in polls.
this is 538’s forecast right now. You can go look it up.
