last month i learned that the USPS once issued first day covers commemorating a battle my grandfather fought in (battle of remagen) and as i've started collecting them it's helped me channel that energy. he fought the fascists, so i will too
Thinking a lot about this first day cover issued by the USPS in 1945 commemorating the Battle of Remagen, where my grandfather fought. He raised the first American flag east of the Rhine.
He didn't bow to fascists, he did his part to end them.
That's the energy I'm trying to hold on to.
I have six of them that are 30+ feet tall. I don't like herbicides but I am going to wage war on them this summer. Herbicide this summer, removal in the fall. Hopefully in two years I can replant this section of my yard as an oak grove with some native currants and lupine and yarrow and alliums.
My alma mater has a beautiful chapel that seats 600 and hosts one of the largest pipe organs in the country. They charge all of $400 for a ceremony there.
(Bonus: they're super strict about decor and music so if any extended family try to butt in you can just say "sorry no, venue rules")
Himalayan yak cheese, but my pup is also not a heavy chewer (He has beef checks that are literally a year old despite near-daily chewing and they are still mostly intact)
If he wasn't so obsessed with his race war fantasies that he had to make the Cybertruck into a shitty urban tank, maybe we could've gotten an electric El Camino.
