Saw a post recently about how yesterday's decisions woke someone up to how important voting is, as the only way to get the right type of judges onto SCOTUS, & consciously restrained myself from posting a deeply unhelpful "IT TOOK YOU UNTIL NOW TO GET THIS" that bubbled up from my soul. Please clap.
In casual convo with some politically tuned in but not freaks about it friends on Sunday, the one thing from the week that came up wasnt the debate but the Chevron decision. Like w a lot of stuff, I think political news media & terminally online posters are misreading the moment vis a vis normies
Oh I’m 100% sure that if the immunity decision had already come down, it would have been the main topic. I think Chevron scans as “killing regs,” but yes it’s far more wonky than “SCOTUS just said Trump can be a dictator if he gets back power.”
Genuinely proud of you. I get similar impulses, and it's only been in the last couple of years that I've been able to recognize them as being unhelpful.
It’s hard to shake people from their fantasies. They enjoy the fantasy. It’s comforting. They even resist being woken from the dream. In 2016 I became very blunt switching to the 2x4 to the head method. They still resisted. I have a better understanding of the Prophets these days.
Yes! The GOP has systematically, intensely, patiently planned to have the Supreme Court they wanted. And guess what, they started on this project 35 years ago. And Dems did NOTHING. Went along with all other pet issues. Presidential elections #1 issue every time ought to be Supreme Court appointees.
At least they are starting to wake up. We need to get LOUD & in the streets so even more start to take an interest in the future of democracy in their country.
I dunno, I try to keep positive because, not in this scale but, Mexico has been here before recently. Former pres. Calderon made a mess of things with the drug war, and conservatives were pretty much gutting the country for profit.
There’s a big difference between gutting the country for profit. Which the tories have been doing here for 14 years, and the rise of fascism which is what’s happening in the US. The first, deaths of citizens is mostly accidental as they want the money they produce. The second it’s deliberate.
Here’s the thing: I’m no American citizen, at this point, I can do less than nothing, other that worry. And honestly, right now my only concern is my students, my girlfriend, and my family. What, you want me to get a rifle, hop on the border and shoot Trump?.
I’m not a US citizen either. What you can do is spread the information and urge US citizens to act. If they do there’s a slim chance it’s not too late.
The error of liberals for the last 55 years was depending on the courts to keep the common good protected. So while conservatives organized district by district liberals just went for the easier congressional wins. There was never a 50 state 435 seat effort. SO welcome to the present moment.
Somewhere a lifelong Michigan resident is saying to a friend:
"Damn, this Supreme Court is crazy. President's are what, Kings now? Doesn't sound American to me. I haven't voted since 2008, but I'm going to do it this year. I like what I'm hearing from RFK Jr., so I'll probably pick him"
