Was feeling paralyzing despair this morning when my 82 yo recluse artist friend, who barely ever leaves his house in rural Georgia, texted to say he’s joined organizing efforts to protest & mobilize voters. Taught me a lesson. Getting connected locally today; hoping many others choose action too.

the combination of Ohio, Chevron, and Jarkesy is to tell the extraordinarily rich “there’s no one who can hold you accountable for anything if you can afford a lawsuit”
The demise of Chevron is being widely interpreted as an expansion of judicial power. It is that, but it also and more profoundly an expansion of power of moneyed interests. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-money-...

I tried to avoid political chatter for my own mental health, but discourse around Biden’s debate showing as a rationale for not voting is shocking considering Project 2025 + Chevron decision are a direct line to fascism. Sorry about link from the bad place; important xplainr🧵 x.com/andrewpolino...

Both the “black jobs” remark and using palestinian as a slur are hopefully clarifying as to actual Trump’s ideology and worldview, in contrast with the imaginary trump some people have built up in their heads as the memory of his administration has receded

Whew, this is an important thread that my jaded and social media-drenched students need to understand.
SOAPBOX TIME I hate how many times I read things like "nobody cares about the world" and "humanity is the virus" and "our species is too inept/evil/selfish to survive" online. I almost never see anyone talking about the many, many people who are doing incredibly hard, complex, good work

Important thread explaining very important research & reporting on plastics & recycling (rather, the lack of recycling). We need more circular design thinking sooner, & more regulation to require firms to reduce/eliminate plastic production.
1/ Last year, I became obsessed with a plastic cup. The cup was made via pyrolysis — a kind of chemical recycling I'd heard a lot about. The plastics industry made pyrolysis sound magical. It was a way to turn hard-to-recycle plastics into new plastic. So I tried to buy the cup…

I cannot get over how many times in recent years the Washington Post had to decide *not* to share that they knew the Alito household flew an upside-down flag in the immediate aftermath of Jan 6 before reporting it today. www.lawdork.com/p/washington...
Washington Post bombshell: Washington Post buried Alito flag story for three yearswww.lawdork.com Saturday's report raises many questions, several relating to the fact that the Post, at least passively, made the decision not to reveal this news many times since 2021.

Have to say, this org is genuinely scary. I run across so few people in day-to-day life that know anything about Project 2025 or its stated agenda. Why is this? Lack of media coverage (as @mmfa.bsky.social notes below)? Whiplash & exhaustion re: public events leading to apathy? Something else?

The issue is that the “marketplace of ideas” was a meta for crafted precisely to extend (elite) control over the rapidly changing universities of the 1970s and 1980s. The metaphor was a response post-1968 higher ed politics precisely to institute hierarchies of value to knowledge.
Been thinking a lot about how conservatives and capitalists have been jamming ideas about free markets down our throats forever but can’t understand that academia is a market place of ideas where with study and investigation outmoded and bad ideas are replaced with newer, better ones.
