Macron has been behaving as an authoritarian right-winger for quite a bit. But that it made its way to the NYT is indeed interesting, thanks. OTOH, the NYT's line that "feelings have hardened around immigration" is... not what is happening.

I do feel that a lot of our problems stem from our colonial pasts, I am English and was never really told of the bad stuff only that we were a force for good and helped to civilise the world. I believe that shows in EU policies and politics, we are extremely arrogant towards the rest of the world.
