This is Stephen Miller's law firm. They're also currently repping a TV reporter suing CBS-LA for being anti-white, which as a former CBS-LA reporter I think is absolutely laughable. But they're trying to create still more legal precedent for a racist takeover, it's clear
The Northwestern lawsuit is an example of the White gaze in action: “White gaze is the operational norm of White space wherein Black people are scrutinized through the lens of Whiteness, resulting in their exclusion, subordination, and objectification.” www.reuters.com/legal/legali...

Deeply ironic that immediately before the 4th of July--the annual celebration of the Founders' decision to break away from monarchy--the Supreme Court justices who profess loyalty to the founding era understanding of the Constitution decided to make the president a king tinyurl.com/originalismtrap

One thing I think is important to remember, because even many of us that were adults when this happened forget, is that ICE is only 21 years old. This horror is not inevitable. It was created and it can be dismantled.

Used the leftover lemon pasta from the alfredo I made the other night to make a pasta salad. Dressing is red wine vinegar, garlic olive oil, vegetarian Parm, dried herbs. Massaged kale (I know, but it DOES taste better) multicolor tomatoes, and chopped fresh mozzarella. It's delicious.

Over at the Bad Place, I made a tradition of posting Douglass' "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth of July," and I intend to carry on that tradition here. Since most versions you read in classes or in textbooks have parts omitted, the link below has the full text of the speech.
(1852) Frederick Douglass, "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth Of July" •www.blackpast.org On July 5, 1852, Frederick Douglass was invited to address the citizens of his hometown, Rochester, New York. Whatever the expectations of his audience on that 76th anniversary of the signing of the D...

Moral of the story: your teens are also concerned about what misinformation YOU have encountered on the World Wide Web.

I came to my 14 year old with a concern about social media. He literally took his glasses off, rubbed his temples, and asked: “what have the moms on the internet said now?” 😯🫤😆

If you're so concerned about the stakes of this election you could just... spend the next four months writing about the stakes of this election. A constant drip of articles calling the Democratic nominee unfit is also not a great strategy for winning!

To quote a frequent question my 10 year old daughter has these days, "does that make you hypocritical?"

I wrote for More Perfect Union about the Biden administrations proposal to implement new protections for workers who are agonizing under extreme heat.

I know it's not the same and this feels really similar to the conversations I have with folks about personal choices for school for their children. Even folks that support good policies for public schools often opt out of the communities they claim to fight for.

This is almost word for word what I tell students. Even if you’ve been disillusioned by what’s happening at the state and federal level, you need to get out and shore up your local politics.
It's not going to come down to a president or red states or blue states. It's going to come down to electing mayors and city council members that are brave enough to say "you're going to need to send in the National Guard if you want that shit enforced here." This is why we vote.

I actually did it much simpler. We did about equal parts peanut butter and plain Greek yogurt and then a little bit of agave in the food processor. Froze in a mold. Once it was frozen melted some semi-sweet chocolate chips with a little bit of almond milk and dipped frozen bars in that and froze.

I got a duvet cover for the weighted blanket I sleep with, that's just on my side of the bed, and now it looks like I've claimed a side of the bed like a side of the room in kids sitcoms. Like it's divided down the middle.

supporting a candidate has become so synonymous with stan culture that it’s impossible to talk about a person’s merits without being labeled an unquestioning worshipper

I’ve had over a decade to miserably marinate on an anti-democratic process in which, to my great sorrow, all my gloomiest, wildest predictions keep coming true. Despite that, I still don’t think we’re doomed or that we should give up and walk into the sea en masse.
on the record, I’ve been losing my mind with anxiety and fear over the fall of American democracy since 2013, when I noticed how similar U.S. politics was starting to sound to the kleptocracy I reported on in Cambodia. This is terrifying, but at least we know exactly the enemy’s intention are.
