For a start, the sponsors of this bill need to be given a wedgie for that acronym.

This is unconstitutional

As a Jew concerned about the rising tide of antisemitism, no no no no no no no no no!

Hello free speech advocates?? Where are you???

Hah yeah I’m sure he’s on it

Elon is coming. Everything is fine.

Hello, University, we have sent you Newt Gingrich* to monitor you for thoughtcrimes. Also, you have to pay him. And if you don’t pay him, or cooperate with him in every way, you will lose all access to Pells, grants and federal student loans. No possible corruption there! *or equivalent idealogue.

Also can someone please fucking primary Ritchie Torres? He is a world-class asshole, and counterproductive in every possible way.
Avatar
I don’t normally agree but…. Yeah people should primary him.
Avatar
Horses for courses. He's occupying a solidly Democratic seat that could go to a much more productive progressive lawmaker.

So funny how we have been some of the most critical of protesters on this site and how easy you are willing to throw us all away. You are just as bad as the other side who won’t listen.

DEI offices: “we will combat racism, antisemitism, and discrimination to make university campuses a welcoming place for everyone” Fascists: DEI offices are dangerous woke communism and should be illegal. We’ve gotta mandate behavior to protect ppl ;). Also NAZIs speaking on campus is free speech.

If a bill is "bipartisan" it's shit. No exceptions. Only bills that republicans oppose are good.
Avatar
The point is not to protect Jewish people from antisemitism. The point is to protect Israel spending from criticism.
Avatar
Such f'ing bullshit
Avatar
Man, iunno about this, something tells me that having the state monitor Jewish folks in an effort to "protect them" sounds iffy. I'm sure there aren't any historical references of why monitoring and tracking specific groups of people is bad.
Avatar
Avatar
As a Jewish person I’m terrified. Because it’s just going to become a way to police Jewish students into being pro-Israel when Israel is not the pope of the Jews, & does nothing for Diaspora Jews. Not to mention they haven’t given a fuck until it was about protesting war crimes done in our name.

The powerful people, either part of or funded by corporate billions, have been pursuing the objectives of the Powell Memo for the past 50 years. They've recently made a massive push to accomplish those objectives. One objective is to control universities. www.commondreams.org/views/2021/0...

@ritchietorres.bsky.social has an account here I hope he sees some of this feedback

Opened the article to see which dem signed on and "Reps. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.)" makes perfect sense.
Avatar
smh, if this passes, i get the impression that it will be predominantly be used against the jewish students who have been protesting israel's behavior, which will be a painfully bad look for anyone who supported it, when their rule against antisemitism creates antisemitic behavior 💀
Avatar
It's more crap from that steaming pile, Axios. One Democrat and one Republican proposed a bill that is going nowhere. Please don't hyperventilate about "Congress wants ..."
Avatar
question: will they be there to prevent or to ensure it?
Avatar
Avatar
I mean, clearly Jews have to be the ones being antisemitic, who else even knows what it really is? /s for those who don't know me
Avatar
In other words, DEI. Well done, idiots.
Avatar
They're completely dedicated to winning over those four gettable Trump voters
Avatar
It's like they were just railing against the existence of DEI programs in college and now they want it back but only in one very specific way that has obvious 1st amendment issues
Avatar
Yeah, that's not really bi-partisan as much as pro-fascist. On behalf of their funder AIPAC. bsky.app/profile/coac...
Congress wants ANTISEMITISM MONITORS at colleges. Nothing about the anti-Islamic, anti-black, anti-woman, anti-LGBTQ,
Bipartisan bill would create "antisemitism monitors" at collegeswww.axios.com The COLUMBIA Act is the first bill introduced in direct response to recent campus protests.
Avatar
What if we had monitors for all oporessed groups? Maybe a, I don't know, department let's say. That promoted, and was a watchdog for, trying to find the right phrase...got it, equity and inclusion?
Avatar
Avatar
no doubt this will be loudly supported by every single congressperson and pundit who is just as loudly opposed to diversity, equity and/or inclusion also LOL at the bill being sponsored by two non-jews
Avatar
You know what offices could actually help monitor and report on discrimination in colleges? EDI offices.
Avatar
And Title VI. And Title IX And ….
Avatar
For some reason, having a government dictate what is and is not Judaism seems like a bad idea.
Avatar
...sort of like how they wanted cis men to monitor women's bathrooms to profile women that might be trans This is not about protecting jews, it is about policing political speech and it will be used against jews that happen not to support genocide
Avatar
Avatar
The sad part is that the people behind this aren't actually this stupid. They just think we all are.
Avatar
Fine. But criticizing Israel for war crimes isn’t antisemitic. Unless they want us to believe all Jews are guilty of war crimes?
