Please, please take a minute to read this. It got around on The Bad Place - but we'll need to do some outreach/education here on Faked and Cruel "nature" photos. www.pbs.org/newshour/sci...
You didn't know that you needed a picture of a tiny frog riding a giant beetle, but now you do.
When whimsical wildlife photography isn't what it seemswww.pbs.org This photo looks cute, but it reveals the cloudy intersection of wildlife photography, animal welfare issues and photojournalism integrity.

I did my powerboat 2 training yesterday, me, two other trainees and the instructor in and about Hartlepool docks learning how to drive a RIB. An unexpected delight was that they (offshore workers) asked me about birds when I told them what I do..

Terns are gathering in Liverpool Bay, so a team of watchers are busy reading colour-rings and flags before the birds head south. More, along with news of scarce visitors to #NorthWales this week, in the Daily Post Bird Notes. 📷 Mel Hughes #UKBirding www.birdnotes.wales/blog/terns-a...
Terns assemble!www.birdnotes.wales Europe’s migratory seabirds are gathering as the breeding season ends, before heading to Africa. I was moments too late to see a Little Tern in the Conwy estuary on Sunday morning, a scarce visitor...

Right, so this is the story of the old mate I was out with last night, didn't happen to me, but too good not to repeat. Will probably only work for the Brit adjacent.

This is astounding. Over about 10 years the use of the livestock drug diclofenac wiped out nearly 50 million vultures. The result was spread of disease among humans causing an estimated half a million deaths. Just tragic all around. www.science.org/content/arti...

Hey wanna see something not terrible? One of the Moth Appreciators brought a rosy maple moth stuffed animal for good luck, then we found a rosy maple moth. Gathering around the moth on a stick is a nice & wholesome activity. Sometimes things are good.

Very lucky to be able to help out with some surveying on Ailsa Craig this week - I've written a bit and put some pics here, warning - not many bird photos! sarahdal.github.io/uav/2024/07/...

It’s weird to see a headline about the murders of three women in their home by a man who seems to have been known to them, and the headline is about outlawing the highly specific weapon used. I don’t think the crossbow is the problem here.

Now he’s out of parliament, we need to team George Galloway up with Dutch footballer Denzel Dumfries to make a detective series, where Denzel does all the hard work and solves cases by debunking the mad conspiracy theories of his partner. The title of such a series is obvious.

Why have some replies got this by them now?

Something that's important to do now is WRITE TO YOUR MP. Particularly if they are new. Not a form letter or autogenerated one. An actual personal one. Not frothy. Just firm and clear. Ask them their views. When they respond, tell them how it aligns (or doesn't) to KEEP your vote.
