The new COVID variant seems to be evading immunity from vaccines and past infections. COVID cases are up 250% in NYC. Remember the more you get covid your risk for long covid increases significantly.

just in time for my work to be full on hardcore pressuring everyone to fly to home office for a big in person party that famously gave everyone covid the last time they held it.
hooray.
i mean, for all of us. i’ve never had it; i don’t want it; but odds are good i’d be fine. but i’m not dying to be the person leaking a new infection out from under her mask on an airplane who gives the retired teach next to me the case that makes her whole next three years a long covid extravaganza.
nobody talks about this enough. I hear folks say - I'm vaccinated and healthy, if I get it it will be a bummer but no big deal - which fine, spin the roulette wheel on long covid if you want, but what about the folks you infect?
i mean, i am also very worried about getting it! there’s nothing saying i wouldn’t have shit luck on the first go. but i really don’t like being responsible for someone’s bad time.
Oh no I didn't mean you were saying that! but that it is a prevailing sentiment and it means a lot to me that you care about passing it on! I hope you are able to avoid it entirely considering your work situation and all
Same. Hoping the fact that shot #5 (or was it #6? Losing count since they stopped filling card) was a switchover from Moderna to Novavax will help bridge the gap, with cross reactivity and Nova’s pretty good record against new variants. But who knows given it was September of ’23 when I got it.
Yeah just debating what to do in this liminal period before the new formulas are avail. Booster now, and again in like October/Nov with new formula, or just wait for new.
I was in Walgreens today picking up prescriptions because their drive through was closed and was the only one masked. One of the pharmacists said something about "the woman with COVID." I guess I'll know what that was about in 4 or 5 days!
