note how long it took the French from calling the election to holding not 1 but 2 votes? and organizing the shit out of the second one? LESS THAN ONE MONTH A national election does not have to be a painful 1.5-2 year process! the US election campaign should quite honestly not even have started yet!!

Please note the wildly incorrect polling in France. No matter what the cacophony of pundits keep saying, polls are not predictive, and are never the end of the story. Organizing, volunteering, engaging in conversation, and direct action are effective tools. Let's use them here too.
BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

Italian prosecutors in Milan investigated how Dior is producing their handbags. They found that the workers were sleeping in the facility so bags could be produced around the clock. Consumers pay $2,780 per bag. The production of the bags costs Dior $57. Ht: @maxroser.bsky.social
Now we know how much it costs to make a $2,800 Dior bagwww.businessinsider.com In recent months, Italian authorities raided Dior subcontractor workshops where people were working around the clock, they said.

What if - and hear me out - from now on, we judge debate performance by the accuracy of the participants statements?

Organizers got enough signatures to put a measure protecting abortion on the ballot in Arkansas. In *Arkansas*. They had *no national support*. Ignore the pundits melting down over not being treated as Very Special Boys. Dobbs has fundamentally changed elections. Everything they know is wrong.

“They want to eliminate national parks” is a very simple way to get just about anyone on the Stop Project 2025 train. Are there much more glaring and life-threatening goals of P25? Yes but even your most bigoted cousin does not want to see the parks system sold for parts.
This!! Start with “they want to end no fault divorce, sell national parks, and ban porn” end with tax structure.

Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.

Every time someone claims immunocompromised people can’t take the COVID vaccine, more of my hair turns gray. It is the opposite — People who are immunocompromised need different, bigger and more frequent dosing than the rest of us to elicit an immune response.

Let's all put on some Enya or something and do some breathing excercises.

Air quality has finally dropped back into green and... it's 90 for the next 4 days. When people are stunned that I love winter this is why. THIS. I'm sorry summer is miserable WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS? *cries in Scottish genes*

Alternate: Open AI's whole thing is "all data should be useable by ANYONE (IE US)" so why would ANYONE be surprised they went around Apple's data protection scheme. They're not dumb, it is literally THEIR THING.
OpenAI intentionally went around default MacOS safety features which would have prevented this because they are as dumb as they are reckless.

Google’s emissions are up 48% in 5 years. Microsoft’s are up 30% since 2020. Those soaring figures are being driven by mass investments in data centers to power AI tools. Generative AI is a climate disaster and data center expansion must be stopped.

No matter how old Joe Biden is, the fact remains that Donald Trump could not pass the background check requirements for the very lowest level of security clearance required of contractors and employees for the US Government.

I’ve written at length in recent years about the pre-Montgomery Bus Boycott battles that Black southerners waged against Jim Crow. There’s an attitude that the modern Civil Rights Movement was a sudden explosion, but it was the fruit of years of planning. And superhuman courage.
There's another key attribute of hope that doesn't get mentioned much. Hope fights. Even when victory seems unlikely—especially then—hope fights. We should be hopeful people. Full essay: www.the-reframe.com/a-fools-hope/

Reminder for those of us in the PNW: July 4th is basically the official start of fire season, make sure you've got an Air Quality Monitor installed (I like IQAir) and pay attention to the levels. It's currently at 159 here (unhealthy for all) and still see folks exercising outside (don't).

also i don’t give a fuck about trump supporters. stop trying to switch someone’s vote. it’s not going to happen! our job is to always be getting out our own vote: register new voters, get regular voters to the polls, and encourage other voters to vote this year. if we do this we win the whole thing
one of the most cowardly arguments i keep seeing from columnists is that nothing breaks through with trump supporters, so it’s a waste of time reporting on what he believes. this should be seen as a critically damning failure on behalf of the fourth estate. this means you failed. it’s not a pass.

Seriously? Fireworks combined with our current weather (air is just sitting) means the AQ is too bad for me to go exercise my horse this morning before the heat. Fireworks, this polluting. Why are we still doing this anywhere?

Pointing again at my US Blue State Challenge. If you live in a "blue state", pick the red state you hate the most and the issue you care about the most and find a group in that state working on that issue and support them.
One thing I don’t understand is why, when people are outraged by some injustice or affront — like book bans — they don’t first look to see who is already tracking the issue, who’s already working on education + organization. “We need to do something!” People *are*. Find them. Help them.

we’re supposed to be the helpers, AND: you should still start by looking for the helpers… and then ask how you can pitch in. there are very few areas to help where someone isn’t helping already, and our efforts accomplish more when we work together. look for the helpers so you can join them.
Reminder from a Pittsburgher who was at one point Mr. Rogers neighbor: “Look for the helpers” was intended to be advice for his usual audience, children. We’re grown ups now. We’re supposed to be the helpers.
