every so often I stop over at Twitter to check DMs and it's never not surreal to see how many journalists are still over there happily lending credibility to a right wing propaganda sewer owned by a fascist

We're this far into this and reporters *still* haven't figured out that the lies people like Vance tell to justify their attacks on anyone they deem insufficiently MAGA are not sincere.
what the fuck is this dogshit

As you know, the death of Twitter has devastated small creators. Would you please reskeet to help me get the word out about my newsletter, The Bugbear Dispatch? Thanks!
When I got the news about the assassination attempt, "I knew there was no American 'unity' coming that would in any way include me as a transgender woman." The first night of the RNC certainly proved that last night, but pundits are still busy scolding Dems www.bugbeardispatch.com/p/america-th...

If you want access to free books, please get a library card. In the US, the more people there are with library cards, the more funding libraries have access to. Libraries provide more than books. They are a community resource. As an author and reader, I support libraries! #books #libraries

Reporting from Milwaukee: tonight at day 2 of Trump’s coronation, the evening’s theme — with the crowd hooting and smiling along — was just a deluge of gore, blood in the streets, xenophobic scapegoating, terror, unstoppable bloodshed (unless we elect Trump!)… www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

There’s willful self-delusion in the NYT’s bizarre moralizing. Civility is a treaty. A mutual adherence to norms. When one side has shown itself eager to lay waste to law, limit freedoms, attack the vulnerable, and foment violence in its ranks, the treaty is broken. The norms are dead.
New York Times Editorial Board: "Mr. Trump’s political agenda cannot and must not be opposed by violence. It cannot and must not be pursued through violence." Ok but to be clear Trump's political agenda *is* violence. We get that right? I dont want us to miss that www.nytimes.com/2024/07/13/o...

Ultimately the Democratic Party gets to decide who its nominee is, for better or worse. But it certainly seems like parts of the media believe they it is their job to choose the Democratic candidate, rather than covering the strengths and weaknesses of *both* candidates running for President.
is Donald Trump still running for president

if there is one thing I want to come out of this election, regardless of result, it is Dems - and the left more generally - finally understanding that they need to make their own media ecosystem and stop relying on folks who want them to lose to get their message out

So for all the narrative about the inevitable slide into anti-immigrant populism, four of Western Europe's five largest countries now have left or center left governments?

bad luck for biden to run in an electoral cycle where "are you old" is the most important issue instead of in one of the cycles where email security procedures or accuracy of vietnam war medal citations was the most important issue in the country.

This is the editorial view of the guy who controls which posts get shown on Vichy Twitter and which get buried. Insane that journalists continue to use it as a source of information and contribute to its legitimacy

My favorite part of the West Wing fantasies about replacing Biden is the idea that there wouldn’t immediately be a new fatal flaw with whoever replaced him.
I don't take the age thing seriously. THEY PICK A LIE ABOUT EVERY DEM, and the press knows it's some BS but plays along. They know that the other guy is worse in every way, especially his brain. They turned being a war hero into a liability against a fortunate son draft dodger.

Keeping Trump out of the White House isn’t the only thing that needs doing and it isn’t enough to solve all problems facing the country & world but if it isn’t done then all those problems get exponentially worse in ways I don’t even know how to express and it scares me when people pretend otherwise

There are five main things I think we can do, of which 2-4 are the most likely to work. I favor 3 but I am interested in the way that #2 gets around the constitution.
Reminder that there are five ways to address the current SCOTUS problem. 1. Impeach some justices 2. Impose term limits 3. Expand the courts 4. Pass legislation limiting court prerogatives 5. Keep winning the presidency for the next 16 years or so while periodically also holding the senate.

At this point, it is 100% undeniable that the Supreme Court majority is attempting to destroy democracy and seize total power over the US. They're not even trying to hide it. Since the media refuses to clearly convey this fact to the public, tell everyone you know.
Feels like we could sure use a Constitutional Crisis right about now

Pretty clear that the Federalist Society project to take over the courts for the far right is the most successful and consequential political effort in history. Only took them a few decades. Meanwhile, Dems are like "Let's not be hasty, blue slips serve an important function in preserving comity."

I just don’t think there’s any way the entire NYT editorial board freaking out and calling for Biden to drop out - despite never making any such call for Trump as he plowed through sedition and conviction - will look good with the hindsight of, like, two weeks. Even if Biden does terribly!

Ok, I need everybody to read Section III-A of Alito's dissent in the Idaho abortion case. He says - explicitly and specifically - that in cases where the amniotic sac breaks before the 24th week of pregnancy, abortions should be prohibited. HE SPECIFICALLY NOTES THE DANGERS. He points out that...

NYT editors really feel that mildly supporting Amy Kloubachar makes them far left radicals who are so out of touch with “real” Americans that they are incapable of unbiased assessment of conservatives so they must allow these groups to frame themselves as they like
