they're so steeped in "silent majority" copium that they can't accept being rebuffed by a plurality of society. that's why they have conspiracy theories about every popular vote loss
There is particular power in such an ideologically diverse coalition rejecting the French right because fascists should be reminded often that they’re repugnant to a broad swath of society, not just getting outmaneuvered by the wily left

Over at the Bad Place, I made a tradition of posting Douglass' "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth of July," and I intend to carry on that tradition here. Since most versions you read in classes or in textbooks have parts omitted, the link below has the full text of the speech.

New summer-themed piece! ‘Huckabuck’/frozen cup ladies were pretty common in New Orleans for years and they aren’t as common anymore so why not draw a scene of one? #furryart #fursofcolor

Always has been.
I know smut may seem like a frivolous thing to be upset about, but crushing it is part of fascism. Controlling all forms of sexual expression is fascism. Only allowing certain kinds is fascism. Smut peddlers are always canaries in the coal mines.

I usually say this a lot during hurricane season but a depressing number of liberals (esp. not from the South/Midwest) don’t actually think of inequality, climate disaster, and oppression as bad things to fight but as just comeuppance for happening to live in states where GOP fascism is entrenched
okay now i'm really logging off

Again, Black people are an exception here, as basically anyone who stayed in the Jim Crow South has a living memory of living under what amounted to fascism, including the “always walking on eggshells/lack of social trust/long periods of boring endurance/randomized terrifying violence”
Pretty much. What it mostly boils down to is that most Americans really don’t have the faintest idea what living under modern authoritarian regimes actually looks like, and how it’s often at the same time way more boring and way more scary than they’d imagined.

You see this a lot when white people ask why Black people will talk about police brutality but don’t talk about crime in our communities and thing is, we talk about it all the time, we just don’t talk about it with y’all.
I'm always amused when White people are incredulous that Black folks are having conversations on social media which they haven't observed. We've been having conversations *in the same room as you* unbeknownst to White observers for as long as Whiteness has existed. It's practically a cultural value.

Race is still factored in. White applicants get to keep the advantages they've accrued through systemic racism without any countervailing forces.
